Overview
Job Title: IT Infrastructure Engineer
Location: Irving, TX
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports to: Senior Manager, IT Infrastructure Engineering
Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated IT Infrastructure Engineer to oversee the company's IT infrastructure and ensure its smooth and efficient operation. This includes discovering and understanding the existing network infrastructure and end users’ technical experience, followed by the development of strategies and plans to create IT solutions that are aligned with business operations. This role involves hands-on work coupled with bringing in technology partners when needed to help introduce our IT standards to a portfolio company.
The IT Infrastructure Engineer is also responsible for assisting with gap assessments, identifying and responding to areas where a portfolio company may fall short of a given standard, and working to fill the gap. Further responsibilities include building IT projects, such as audio/visual needs for conference rooms and other workspaces, access control including building access and camera management, low voltage, and the installation of network equipment and printers as needed. They possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, and can articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain IT systems and infrastructure.
- Assess, plan, and execute the transition of network infrastructure to align with company standards. This includes hardware, software, and network configuration.
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including IT teams, vendors, and new company representatives, to ensure successful project execution.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks and issues related to the onboarding and transition process.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all projects, including project plans, network diagrams, system documentation, architecture diagrams, transition procedures, and standard operating procedures.
- Manage and monitor network performance to ensure optimal uptime and resolve issues proactively.
- Perform Layer 2 and Layer 3 network troubleshooting and optimization to ensure seamless communication across devices and applications.
- Configure and maintain network services, including DHCP and DNS.
- Implement and manage SD-WAN solutions to improve network connectivity and reduce operational costs.
- Oversee VLAN configurations and routing protocols to optimize network traffic and performance.
- Conduct regular network health assessments and implement scalability improvements as needed.
- Analyze packet captures (e.g., using Wireshark) to troubleshoot complex network performance issues.
- Plan and execute network migrations and consolidations with minimal downtime for end users.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams as needed to identify and remediate potential vulnerabilities in the network architecture.
- Coordinate with ISPs to address connectivity issues and oversee circuit upgrades or installations.
- Train end users in the use of equipment and softwares.
- Perform system administration for various enterprise tools and platforms.
- Perform hardware and software system configuration, maintenance, and upgrades.
- Evaluate products and IT processes and then recommend changes.
- Frequent travel to branch office locations will be required.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in an IT services support role.
- Associate’s degree preferred.
- Microsoft (MCP) Certification and/or ITIL (fundamentals level) preferred.
- Relevant certifications such as PMP, CCNA, or similar are a plus.
- In-depth knowledge of network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless networks.
- Strong PowerShell experience preferred.
- Strong Office 365 administration experience preferred.
- Strong Azure and Windows Server experience.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP - LAN, WAN, wLAN and vLAN technologies required.
- Strong knowledge of MS Active Directory infrastructure.
- Familiarity with IP Telephony and cell phone technology.
- iOS experience preferred.
- Excellent analytic and problem-solving skills.
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
