What are the responsibilities and job description for the Data Governance Lead position at Meritore Technologies?
Local, we can’t send relocation candidates
Local - On-site on Wednesdays to their Boston location.
Can’t find a fit due to them not having a strong understanding of Governance and they don’t have prior experience on how to setup the foundation within a company where their maturity for governance is low. This person will be helping to create a strategy from scratch and this person will need to influence stakeholders that don’t value data governance and overcome resistance and getting the teams buy-in.
Someone who only worked shorter contracts wouldn’t be a fit here

Job Description
Job Title: Data Governance Lead
The role: It’s an exciting time to be a part of the Clinical Operations and Business Analytics (COBA) team within the division of Informatics & Analytics at Dana-Farber. We are at the core of the Institute, using data to drive innovation that is accelerating our mission to defy cancer and improve the lives of our patients, caregivers, and staff. In this role, you will create, own, and drive the overall strategy and vision for implementing a data cataloging and governance platform while also being deeply involved in the hands-on aspects of the implementation.
What will you do?
General Qualifications:
Datawarehouse snowflake on cloud
Glossary, metadata, lineage
DWH to tableau – how are snowflake tables, fields and data elements
KPI metrics - What data are we looking at
Definitions and explained for all data elements
Cataloging, lineage, metadata
Putting together asset mgmt. system – they selected Informatica CDCG
Someone who can go into the strategy and visioning process of what they need in this tool
Someone with a vision of meeting with customer, identity use cases, phase 1 let’s do this/phase 2 this, 250 dashboards, 3 catalogs, protypes, pilot, etc.
There is someone on the team currently who is taking care of certain pieces with Informatica – catalog scans, technical integrations, but need someone more senior who understands vision/strategy but also needs to be hands on in the system
Manage the business glossary and guide conversations with informatica
They are finding so many issues in the product – be responsible for handling those problems
Individual contributor for now…but maybe in the future expand…i.e. they want to set up framework and hire 3 more people to do the groundwork
Healthcare is helpful but not necessary
Every candidate she has interviewed with has had Informatica
Need someone to have strong understanding of data governance and navigate from ground up. someone who can stand it up and then build it up
Those candidates’ maturity for data governance is very low – they had established experience and knew how to build on that, but they fumbled when explained how they would stand it up.
It’s fine if they don’t already have that experience, but they need to know how to do it/be confident and have a plan – how would you start
Their experience was very isolated or very rigid/inflexible
They tried to do with internal team member, but didn’t work out
Definition of glossary – i.e. “floor” has a different meaning at hospitals
They will not own coming up with the definitions themselves, but use core members to do that
Need to be able to influence and get the users on board
Purpose of this to make it more self-service, eventually AI (need some base data to feed AI)
One more person available on the team right now – also hiring a horizontal director – either report into that director or Rameshwari
1 day Longwood on Wednesday
Small prototype first, build small scale
Ideally by the end of year they have full sample of dashboards and use cases
Thanks & Regards,
