Job Summary:
Meritus Health is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner to deliver comprehensive and up-to-date urgent care services for our patients. The right person will be joining a busy and collaborative practice with established physicians and mid-levels. We look for this person to be able to perform all functions of the job description which covers: performing a diagnostic clinical evaluation, referrals for appropriate intervention, procedure(s), physical therapy and engaging other specialists. Must have a strong background with interpreting EKG’s and x-rays. We are willing to train the right Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant/Physician who has experience and shows a drive to learn.

- Initial interpretation of EKG’s and x-rays
- Diagnose and treat common acute illnesses and chronic conditions
- Willing and able to assist across Meritus urgent care practices
- Perform procedures including laceration repair, I & D’s, IV, removal of superficial foreign bodies, splinting and casting, ear irrigations
- Explain procedures, review and discuss test results and prescribed treatments with patients
- Deliver comprehensive and up to date urgent care services to the community
- Prescribe medication and order diagnostic tests as appropriate
- Connect patients without a PCP to Meritus Primary Care
- Understand and follow current urgent care best practices
- Team player and able to work with clinical team which includes medical assistant, office secretary, nurses, doctors, and other ancillary staff
- Interact with medical practices and emergency room providers to create a cooperative atmosphere
- Perform diagnostic clinical evaluation, and refer for appropriate intervention, procedure, physical therapy, other specialists
- Contribute to utilization management efforts to optimize healthcare resources
- Maintain accurate and current patient records
- Review Relevant imaging and Diagnostic test in a timely manner and provide appropriate referrals.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education - Masters in Nursing required. Doctorate Degree in Nursing Preferred. Completion of a Certified Nurse Practitioner program.
- Experience - Five years experience as a Registered Nurse. One year experience as a Nurse Practitioner preferred.
- DOT certification or ability to obtain DOT certification within first 90 days.
- Clinical experience in at least one of the following: urgent care, emergency care, primary care, or family medicine.
- Experience treating patients across multiple age groups.
- Licensure/Certification - License to practice as Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland required. Current DEA Registration and CDS permit required. Current BLS (CPR) in compliance with policy required. ACLS and PALS (if applicable) in compliance with policy required. For Wound Center only, ACLS in compliance with policy required.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Demonstrates critical thinking, extensive clinical competence and expertise. Demonstrated ability to work well with all disciplines at all levels. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills. Fluency in coding, ICD-10 and CPT, or commitment to acquire. Will have EHR computer access.
