Job Summary: The Clinical Observer role is ideal for individuals pursuing a career in healthcare who wish to observe and learn about clinical practices and hospital workflows in a real-world environment. Under the supervision of a Licensed Nurse, performs direct observation and assistance with activities of daily living while maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for the patient requiring one to one observation. Assists with basic unit functions as directed by licensed nursing staff. Ability to sit in quiet observation of patient for long periods of time without distraction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Observation and Learning:
- Shadow physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff to observe patient interactions, clinical procedures, and treatment plans.
- Document observations and reflections to facilitate learning and improve understanding of clinical practices.
- Support and Assistance:
- Assist healthcare professionals with non-clinical tasks such as patient transportation, preparation of equipment, and maintaining cleanliness in patient areas.
- Provide support to staff by handling administrative tasks or data entry as needed.
- Patient Interaction:
- Interact with patients under the supervision of clinical staff to help with basic needs and provide comfort.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations at all times.
- Training and Development:
- Participate in orientation and training sessions to understand hospital policies, safety protocols, and infection control measures.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Skills and Attributes:
- Strong observational skills and a keen interest in healthcare.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in a clinical setting.
- Flexible, adaptable, and willing to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience:
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting (e.g., volunteer work, internships) is advantageous but not required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the hospital for extended periods.
- Ability to lift or assist with moving patients or equipment as needed.
- Willingness to sit still for long periods while not getting distracted with phones, other employees, etc.
