Informatics Specialist

• The Informatics Specialist is responsible for working with clinical areas to optimize and drive efficiencies with clinical processes and electronic health record (EHR) as a tool for improvement.
• As specialists, they act as a liaison for the end users to the application analysts and report writers who organize and validate data. They identify areas of opportunity for efficiency, system compliance, and find solutions to leverage technology for outcome improvements.
• Informatics Specialist will stay up to date on clinical decision support opportunities in the EHR to work with clinical areas to drive strategic goals.
• Will be responsible for reviewing, assessing, and mastering Epic and related applications training materials, preparing for classes, setting up classrooms, facilitating classes, and following up on questions and feedback. This position will also assist with testing and providing training and communication to business areas for Epic upgrades, workflow changes, and areas for improvement.
• Assists customers in identifying systems solutions to meet functional needs, streamline, and ensure patient safety and confidentiality.
• Defines and designs in conjunction with user departments, applications to meet on going specific needs.
• Work with the Epic project team and reporting analysts to make recommendations for enhancements and resolve issues as well as identify value stream processes for improvement and engage business owners to improve data outcomes. Provide credential training services for optimization, new employees, and upgrades.
• Organizes and conducts training classes for one-on-one or “train the trainer” approach and interact with clients and partner with business office, clinical and business providers, customers and colleagues, while working independently testing, documenting, and ensuring training support and maintenance.

Education - Associate's or Bachelor's preferred.

Experience -

• Previous experience in a clinical practice, hospital/clinic setting preferred.
• Prior committee and/or project focused work.
• Clinical systems and technology experience preferred, including ability to train on systems.
• Desire knowledge of processes and workflows common in hospitals and physician office practices across varied specialties combined with advanced computer skills.
• Healthcare support desired in areas such as billing, scheduling, access services, and health information management. Prefer experience working on project team, systems support, and general knowledge of healthcare information issues.
• Process improvement experience with Kata, preferred.

Licensure/Certification -

• Current Epic credentialed Trainer certifications
• OR must attend multi-week Epic training program and obtain certifications within 3 months of program completion.

• Demonstrated basic knowledge of change management principles and teamwork.
• Effective communicator who actively listens to understand issues and follows up with end users on resolution.
• Ability to work in complex healthcare delivery model.
• Advocates for streamlined processes utilizing lean tools to improve standard and quality of care.
• Excellent communication/interpersonal skills.
• Proficient Epic navigation and able to problem solve. Analytical skills necessary to apply computer technology to resolve problems and/or increase operational efficiency of data processing systems.
• Ability to analyze the functionality of systems and their fit with end user needs.
• Ability to use standard flowcharting tools and techniques to create and maintain business process and functional flow charts. Is able to read and edit technical flow charts.
• Ability to respond to changing demands, priorities, procedures, and technology. Able to lead classroom training, resolve conflicts, maintain issues lists and help and manage a training plan.
• Ability to express needs clearly, both verbally and in writing. Ability to work independently and self-directed in identifying changing demands and priorities. Acts as a change agent in adjusting to new procedures and technology. Dedication to detail with proven organizational skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and users. Ability to set priorities, produce accurate work, and meet deadlines; ability to function in a setting with a wide variety of duties and numerous interruptions.
