Job Summary
This is an entry level position for new hires joining the County work force. Workers in the labor pool are assigned to operating and service departments to assist with extra workload, cover absences and vacations, and supplement crews required to meet unusual changes in the elements such as heat, cold, rain, etc. This job is performed under the close supervision of Operator Crew
Leaders, Operation Supervisor and or Deputy Director.
Essential Functions
Performs property tending duties such as grass cutting, weed eating, blowing in lawn maintenance operations. Also sweeping, moping, scrubbing. and other duties involved in building and maintenance operations.
Performs manual labor task such as shoveling, sweeping, raking, hammering, lifting, loading, cleaning, involved in Public Works maintenance operations.
After training, this job will allow worker to use various machines and equipment to enhance and improve the job process.
Assists with seasonal roadway maintenance issues such as debris removal, snow and ice removal, and tree removal.
Complies with Meriwether County policies and procedures.
Performs position related duties as required with regular and reliable attendance.
Be able to communicate and work with others in a teamwork process for job accomplishment.
Additional Responsibilities
May be assigned to any unskilled job available.
After training, more skilled jobs such as painting, or carpentry may be assigned.

Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for Job Performance
Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing vehicle operation; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force.
Ability to work frequently sitting, speaking, or hearing, using hands and arms to handle or feel, and reach, and repetitive motions. Occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
Work has requirements of standard vision, vocal communication, and hearing.
Work requires assembly or fabrication of parts within arm’s length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles, operating equipment.
Must be able to observe general surroundings and activities.
Regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, working near moving mechanical parts, and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions, and working in high precarious places.
Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibrations.
Must be able to work around loud noises, heavy equipment, construction, and heavy traffic.
Ability to use basic tools and machines.
Special Requirement.
National Safety Council Flagger certifications with six months.
Possess a favorable background history as determined by review of local, state, and federal records, and favorable driving history (MVR).
Possess a valid driver’s license of a Class C minimum, within the state of Georgia.
May require additional safety training or certifications.
