Location: Merkels Floral Studio, 8494 Mentor Avenue, Mentor, OH 44060
Hours: Monday, Wednesday - Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Tuesday 9:30 - 5, Saturdays 9 - 1 (Weekend availability required)
Starting Pay: Competitive to the industry (based on experience)
We are a highly respected and established floral studio, specializing in creating beautiful arrangements for weddings, events, everyday retail, and sympathy occasions. We’re looking for an Experienced Florist to join our talented team and help us continue to exceed our clients' expectations.
About the Role:
This part-time position has the potential for future growth. As a key member of our team, you'll be responsible for crafting high-quality floral designs, assisting with event setups, and ensuring the smooth operation of our floral shop. This role has a strong focus on traditional floristry, with an emphasis on retail and sympathy work. You must be self-accountable and able to work independently, as the position requires a high level of personal responsibility.
Our ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of professional floral experience, with a strong background in funeral and sympathy arrangements. You should be comfortable navigating the varying pace of a floral studio with a storefront, ranging from a fast-paced, dynamic environment during peak seasons to a more thoughtful, strategic approach in the off-season that requires critical thinking and strategic preparation and improvement for the following busy season.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and create floral arrangements for weddings, events, daily floral, and sympathy occasions.
- Provide excellent customer service, assisting clients with product selection, design ideas, and floral care.
- Contribute to shop upkeep and maintenance, ensuring cleanliness and organization at all times.
- Collaborate with the team to prepare for large events and handle seasonal demands.
- Drive a cargo van or box truck to deliver orders and event setups.
- Support the team with day-to-day operations, including inventory management and order preparation.
Key Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of professional floral design experience, with a focus on funeral and sympathy work.
- Strong customer service skills – our brand is upbeat, approachable, and attentive to clients' needs.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods – this is a physical role.
- Proficiency in large-scale sympathy work and advanced wedding mechanics is required to excel in this position.
- Experience with Teleflora POS system (preferred but not required).
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a cargo van or box truck.
- Strong team-oriented attitude and ability to collaborate effectively.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and seasonality in the floral industry.
- Must be available to work weekends.
- Reliable, punctual, and responsible with a strong work ethic.
- This position is part-time, with approximately 15-20 hours per week, or more during peak season. Flexibility in scheduling is required.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks with minimal supervision.
