Job Description - Responsibilities & Duties
Merrell Bros., Inc. is a fast growing family owned business that has been in operation for over 40 years! Indiana Division is seeking applicants for a Full-time driver; Class A CDL; TANKER experience a plus. This is a regional position utilizing newer equipment - Mack Trucks 2020-25; all automatic, and requires some occasional travel away from home. Safe driving, a positive attitude and the desire to make a good income will result in $75,000 per year; with annual Safety Bonus opportunity! Clean driving record is mandatory. 24/7 Assistance.
This position specializes in operation and maintenance of a semi transport tractor and trailer. Individual positions consist of pulling tankers, tri-axle/quad-axle dump trucks, lowboys, roll - offs, or dry transport trailers. (Please check out our equipment listing page for pictures of equipment @ www.merrellbros.com). Trucks and trailers are assigned to individual drivers for their care and operation. Maintenance items are performed by our company mechanics.
Local driving and regional work on a occasional basis requiring overnight stays (hotel rooms provided) that earn overnight per diem and accrued paid days off. Willingness to travel for project work offers higher opportunity for salary!
Responsibilities
- Transport raw materials over land to and from municipalities to facility
- Inspect vehicles daily for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance
- Plan routes and meet delivery schedules
- Document and mileage and retain fuel/toll receipts
- Comply with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures
- Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions
- Collect and verify delivery instructions
- Report defects, accidents or violations
Requirements
- Proven work experience as a truck driver
- Hands on experience with electronic equipment and software (GPS, AVL units, CB etc.)
- Ability to drive long hours during busy seasons
- Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations
- No recent moving or driving violations
- Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions, etc.)
- Willing to submit to background/drug checks and provide employment recommendations
- Truck driving school diploma/certification a plus
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver License
