Our Garden House Supervisors are responsible for :

Resident Services :

  • Develop and implement the highest standards for Garden House services provided to residents.
  • Work directly with the residents to evaluate needs and services. Participate in the assessment process and identify personal history information and interests to be added to the care plan.
  • Implement services during new resident move-in and help residents with orientation to the community and with their overall adjustment to the community.
  • Conduct Family Orientation, engage families in the community, and provide support for them on an ongoing basis.
  • Observe and report any significant changes in resident behavior and health to the Resident Care Director, GM, and the family per state regulations.
  • Work with the Executive Chef to coordinate resident meal service in Garden House that promotes resident choice, and nutrition as well as optimizes resident independence.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement daily activities including group programs, outings, and individual programs for Garden House residents.
  • Order supplies and materials.
  • Provide leadership in creating and maintaining the standards as outlined in the Resident Care & Personal Pathways Manuals.
  • Incorporate programming needs into the care plans for all Garden House residents. Ensure that activity and functional needs are being met with attention to individuality and dignity while maintaining optimal levels of independence in a professional and safe manner.
  • Conduct regular meetings with residents and their families to ensure that needs are being met.
  • Communicate, as needed, with resident family members, regarding residents and services provided.
  • Provide assistance with housekeeping, laundry, meals, personal care, and medications as needed.
  • Ensure that all Resident Rights and Responsibilities are protected and enforced; recognize and assist in the prevention of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation and reports to the appropriate sources per state regulations.
  • Ensure compliance of all State Rules and Regulations of Assisted Living.
  • Managing People :

  • Provide team members with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and build effective teams.
  • Challenge and inspire team members to achieve results.
  • Evaluate team members' skills and competencies and ensure the completion of performance reviews.
  • Set clear expectations and hold team members accountable for performance.
  • Oversee training and development of team members directly and indirectly managed; ensure training and certification of all GH staff are completed as required by Merrill Gardens and state regulations.
  • Determine adequate staffing levels, identify, and recruit top talent, and prepare staffing schedules.
  • Provide coaching, direction, and leadership support to team members to achieve employee engagement and customer "delight."
  • Administration :

  • Ensure all practices in the Garden House meet or exceed Merrill Gardens and state requirements.
  • Coordinate with the General Manager for the financial stability of the Garden House department from both census development and expense control; adhere to budgetary guidelines.
  • Provide the General Manager with weekly status reports on all GH residents.
  • Maintain pertinent resident records and department documentation.
  • Provide additional management reports as required.
  • Acting General Manager if assigned.
  • If you are someone with :

    Education / Certification :

  • College degree in social work, occupational therapy, or recreational therapy or equivalent preferred.
  • First Aid / CPR certification (or must be able to obtain within 30 days of hire) where required by state.
  • Completion of dementia training as required by state regulations.
  • A Commercial Driver's License or the ability to obtain a CDL within 1 month of hire.
  • Experience :

  • Must have 3-5 years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in assisted living, gerontology, and dementia care.
  • Experience in hands-on personal care preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain department budget within guidelines. Skills in promoting teamwork, leadership, team member empowerment, and responsiveness to residents.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations (i.e., staffing; OSHA; fire)
  • Solid computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and operating an electronic care system.
  • Must be at least 25 years of age.
  • Criminal record clearance prior to presence in the community.
  • Ability to operate the community bus to take residents on outings.
  • Excellent written communication skills including proper English grammar and professional writing.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with a diverse group of team members, residents and family members (English).
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Effective problem-solving and conflict management skills dealing with team member issues.
  • Effective coping and leadership skills with job-related demands arising from residents' concerns.
  • Ability to bring about change and lead others through unanticipated change.
  • Must have compassion for and desire to work with the elderly.
  • Ability to handle difficult resident behaviors with compassion and understanding.
  • TB test results within 7 days of hire and a health screen within 30 days of hire (when transferring test results TB or health screen will not be older than 6 months).
  • Regular and timely attendance.
  • This position may require flexible scheduling and off-hours consulting to meet resident needs and to assure proper coverage.
  • The pay range for this position will vary based on qualifications, experience, education / additional licensure, and other objective factors. Hiring at the maximum is not typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth
