What are the responsibilities and job description for the Structural Steel Loader position at Merrill Steel?
Position Summary
Loaders transport large heavy steel pieces such as columns, trusses and I-beams onto flatbed trailers using overhead cranes within the building. It is crucial that the Loaders understand weight distribution between axels and have the ability to pre-plan how loads of steel pieces will fit onto trailers safely so that they will be securely transported across the country. Employees must be able to occasionally lift material weighing as much as 75lbs.
Technical Skills
- Mechanically inclined
- Able to operate grinders for around 15 hours/week
- Experienced in power tools and forklifts (preferred)
- Able to read a tape measure
Quality / Safety Skills
- Have acute situational awareness
- Able to be trained on and operate overhead cranes
- Equipped with personal protection equipment (PPE)
- Able to lift up to 80 pounds
