JOB SUMMARY
To instruct special education students in activities designed to promote social, physical, and
intellectual growth needed for successful progress in an educational setting. To meet the needs
of the special education students. To instruct students in a confidential, positive manner. To
provide a good foundation for learning where each student takes responsibility for their
learning and strives to do their personal best.
Reports to: Building Administrator
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Communicate with parents on a mutually agreed upon time for a case conference.
- Communicate regularly with parents utilizing a newsletter, notes, phone calls, and conferences.
- Conduct IEP (individual education plan) case conferences.
- Develop IEP that includes parent concern/school response, district and IEP progress monitoring data, present levels of performance, skills-based goals, accommodations, and services.
- Identifies student needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.
- Develop measurable goals, benchmarks, and objectives to meet the child's needs.
- Ensure the implementation of the IEP across school settings. Communicates relevant information to appropriate staff members.
- Progress Monitor student's academic/ behavioral/functional goals.
- Provide Specially Designed Instruction to special education students.
- Practice and reinforce skills taught in occupational, physical, and/or speech therapy.
- Develop and use instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of students with a wide range of intellectual, mental, physical, and emotional levels.
- Design lessons and instructional materials to provide individualized and small group instruction based on student's skills as written in the IEP.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to accommodate instruction and materials aligned
to the Indiana State Standards.
- Plan assignments and monitor instructional aides within the classroom setting.
- Create schedules for instructional aides along with evaluating their job performance
- Cooperate and collaborate with other professional staff members.
- Provide an appropriate climate to establish and reinforce acceptable student behavior, attitudes, and social skills.
- Collaborate with the Multidisciplinary team for student evaluations (FBA, academic).
- Develop Behavioral Intervention Plans as well as amend the Behavior Intervention Plan based on student data.
- Adhere to all timelines expressed by Article 7.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned that are necessary for the daily operation of the school program.
Qualifications Requirements:
- Applicants must hold or be eligible for a valid Indiana Teacher’s License in SpecialEducation
- Knowledgeable within the field of Special Education
- Complete all duties associated with the role of Teacher of Record for students receiving Special Education services
- Enthusiastic about contributing to the academic growth of our students
- Possess strong communication skills, including interactions with all stakeholders
- Willingness to contribute to a positive school environment through collaboration and participation in school-wide initiatives and committees
- Ability to foster a supportive classroom environment while advocating for your students
- Other miscellaneous duties, as assigned by the administration
EFFECTIVE: 2024-25 school year
ASSIGNMENT: Full Time, Regular Contract
EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the MCSC’s policy on certified staff evaluation.
