The Merrillville Community School Corporation seeks an outstanding educational leader to fill the position of Assistant to the Principal of Guidance located at Merrillville High School.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Expertise in master scheduling in both traditional and non-traditional models.
- Expertise in current educational concepts that align curriculum, instruction, and assessment with student learning as the primary goal and benchmark of education effectiveness.
- Knowledge of organizational improvement initiatives.
- Understanding of, experience in, and a commitment to the use of technology for instruction and learning.
- Visionary leadership and ability to build consensus and collaboration among diverse populations.
- Demonstrate use of data to drive improvement and results.
- Creative problem-solving techniques and the skills necessary to manage change and resolve conflict.
- Strong public speaking skills to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and community members.
- Successful experience in high school counseling leadership.
- Ability to create a trusting environment that motivates and coordinates the talent and expertise of all staff.
- Master’s Degree in School Counseling.
- Valid Indiana School Counselor License.
- Administrative license
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organize and supervise student registration, building the master schedule in conjunction with the Principal, and the scheduling of all students.
- Organize the process by which individual and group counseling sessions for students can be accomplished.
- Organize the communication process that is necessary among students, teachers, and parents through the Guidance Office.
- Organize and supervise the Merrillville High School testing programs.
- Provide input for orientation of students and teachers at the beginning of the school year.
- Organize, assign, and supervise College Night and Financial Aid Night for students and parents.
- Work closely with computer-based scheduling and its organization with students and staff.
- Organize and supervise the Guidance Department and Registrar so that the cumulative records are kept up-to-date.
- Organize procedures with Registrar for requesting transcripts of credits for entering students and sending transcripts of credits to receiving schools, colleges, and others upon request.
- Organize graduate follow-up procedures with Principal.
- Attend, as indicated, extra-curricular activities where students are involved.
- Work with Principal in the area of curriculum, including development and evaluation of present curriculum.
- Organize and supervise guidance program informational services, which would involve being responsible for maintaining and updating occupation and vocational literature, college trade, and technical school catalogs; scholarship information; and general guidance file.
- Organize and supervise counselor assignments at Merrillville High School.
- Assist in the organization and supervision in which student opinions and feedback can be gained.
- Organize and supervise procedures utilizing the Student Management System, including the reposting of grades.
- Handle all counselor referral forms for assigned students.
- Organize, supervise, and publish a Curriculum Guide which contains course descriptions.
- Assist counselors in organizing Awards Nights, Parent Nights for Student Scheduling, and Course Selection Informational Nights
- Develop reports as needed on test scores and their implications.
- Work as needed with pilot or experimental academic programs.
- Prepare and supply data for federal and state reports as needed.
- Handle affairs of foreign exchange students.
- Work with CTE Director and building administrators to manage career pathways.
- Responsible for homebound student procedures, assigning teachers, etc.
- Update job opportunity board or assign to other guidance personnel.
- Serve on Building Level Committees.
- Coordinate Merrillville Community Scholars selection.
- Coordinate Guidance Services for the Corporation by meeting with counselors in other buildings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and Superintendent of Schools.
