What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grounds Services position at Merrillville Community School Corporation?
SCHEDULE:
Hours per day – 8
Days per week – 5
Schedule: 6:45 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.
Daily Start/End time may be modified to accommodate extra-curricular schedules.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintains grounds equipment such as mowers, spreaders, snow plows, tractors, snow blowers, trimmers and custodial equipment.
2. Participates in the pickup and distribution of mail, food, maintenance orders, instructional supplies, custodial supplies and furniture.
3. Assists with supervision of seasonal grounds staff to insure efficiency, safety, and productivity.
4. Participates in snow removal and sidewalk safety preparation.
5. Participates in the proper maintenance of school corporation grounds, exterior painting, roadways, parking lots, athletic fields, irrigation systems, playgrounds, tennis courts, fences, gates, mulch, lawns and shrubs.
6. Responsible for maintaining outdoor Merrillville High School facilities during outdoor sports seasons to include: trash cleanup, preventive maintenance, light plumbing, light carpentry, light bulb replacement and ceiling tile replacements.
7. Demonstrates or has demonstrated a good working relationship with co-workers, Athletic Directors, coaching staff, clerical staff, students and the general public. 8. Become informed of state of the art procedures on grounds care products, methods, etc.
9. Must have valid Indiana driver’s license.
10. Operates front end loader, dump truck, salt spreader, lawn equipment, snow blowers, custodial equipment and fork lift. (Willing to obtain fork lift certification prior to expiration of probationary period.)
11. Assist Maintenance/Custodial staff with basic building maintenance, preventive maintenance, painting, light plumbing, light carpentry, light bulb replacement and ceiling tile replacements as needed.
12. Other duties assigned by Director of Building and Grounds and Grounds Coordinator.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Able to lift up to 75 pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous experience preferred Computer literacy preferred Experienced in snow plowing Must have passed the Grounds Services test with a minimum score of 75%
