Director/Head Coach of Synchronized Swim Team
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Director/Head Coach assumes responsibility for overseeing the administration of all programs relating to the ANA Synchronized Swimming program. They will have oversight over the Team, the ANA Synchers, a locally and nationally competitive team, and any related synchronized swimming classes and programs. They are responsible for developing a competitive synchronized swimming program, including coaching and staffing team practices, attending local and national swim meets, managing local swim meets, and representing the ANA Synchers at conferences and clinics. The Director/Head Coach supervises and recruits coaching staff and volunteers and provides management of all administrative and budgetary functions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for hiring and supervision of all coaching staff.
- Develop and maintain a program for coaches with goal setting, needed mentoring, and achievement evaluation.
- Oversee coaches in their development of skills, proper required certifications and looks for opportunities for additional training. Handle staff issues in a timely, equitable and effective manner.
- Market and recruit participants and athletes; grow and maintain a team of approx. 60 swimmers by the end of year 2025.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive synchronized swimming program for swimmers of all levels: novice, intermediate, age-group, and juniors. Including feeder programs such as “learn to synch” to introduce children and adults to synchronized swimming and grow the team.
- Develop annual calendar and coordinate various program’s training plans (pool and land) and coaches’ schedules
- Initiate and maintain effective communication with club’s athletes, parent’s group, coaches, volunteers, and other internal YMCA teams and related groups.
- Work with the PBG via regular PBG and parent’s group meetings. Work with team’s volunteers to maintain team website, and regular written communications.
- Recruit parent volunteers and oversee related audio-visual equipment.
- Communicate and meet regularly with the Senior Physical Director to inform and update information related to operations of team.
- Provide for productive, motivating and safe training conditions.
- Keep abreast of regional, zone, and national rules and regulations for all USSS and potential AQAU competitions. Provide the coaching staff with latest in training needed for each group.
- Plan for and attend necessary YMCA, USA Synchro, coaches and related meetings.
- Hold “evaluations of skills” and develop criteria for athlete placement in routines. Work with individual swimmers on goal setting.
- Oversee the selection of music and choreography of all routines.
- Facilitate all meet entries and plan meet logistics for team. Maintain coaching attendance at meets. Work with a parent volunteer and assist in any travel arrangements for away meets.
- Host and manage local meets and all related activities, with the assistance of coaching staff, parent’s group, and volunteers.
- At all times, provide an organized, rewarding, and safe experience for all athletes.
- Develop summer programs for the growth of the program as well as current swimmers' skills development. This would include hosting summer camps, workshops and individual training to prepare for the upcoming season.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Effective communication skills: ability to communicate with swimmers, coaches, YMCA volunteers, and parents.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to details.
- Experience coaching, judging, or former swimming experience.
- Ability to create routines appropriate for specific levels of swimmers, with an experienced choreographer if needed.
- Ability to work well with swimmers of varied ages and skill levels, with tact and respect.
- Ability to create and execute workout and practice plans.
- Ability to create and track a team budget.
- Ability to create additional programming opportunities to support a year-round budget for the Synchronized Swimming program.
Salary : $55,000
