Description
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. As a Full-Time Lifeguard, you will represent the YMCA in a professional manner, ensuring a safe aquatic environment for members, non-members, and program participants under the supervision of the Aquatics Director and Assistant Aquatics Director.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Schedule: Remain flexible to accommodate registration, departmental and branch special events. Weekend and evening availability to accommodate the facilities 7 day a week schedule.
- Must work 40 hours a week specifically evenings and weekends.
- Must have considerable ability as a swimmer plus skills in rescue work, resuscitation and First Aid.
- Maintain constant surveillance of water and pool deck areas, ensure a safe and positive environment.
- Enforce all pool rules in a consistent, courteous and fair manner. Educate family users of the purpose and need for the rules as a professional.
- Administer First Aid and CPR as required and fill out appropriate forms.
- Take and record chemical readings as scheduled.
- Assist with pool preparation and set up, including equipment handling and pool chemicals as well as completing closing procedures of all pools.

Financial Development:
- Provides leadership and support of Annual Campaign that results in achievement of our annual fund-raising goal.
Other Duties:
- Perform other duties as assigned by Senior Management.
- Dress professionally in required and appropriate uniform. YMCA lifeguard issued shirt, hip pack, whistle. Appropriate footwear while on duty and throughout the facility. And/or any additional branded, uniform or safety clothing or gear including rescue tubes, safety communication devices or as assigned. Oversized, baggy and excessively loose clothing or attire considered to hinder a rescue are not acceptable while on duty.
Qualifications
- Minimum age: 18 Years Old
- Current YMCA/American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent. If not, YMCA will acquire it within the first 60 days of employment.
- Current ASHI First Aid & CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Oxygen certification, or equivalent.
- Successful completion of the facility’s Lifeguard test.
- Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
Salary : $17 - $18
