What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Labor Associate position at Merritt?
We’re looking for a reliable and hardworking General Laborer to join our metal shop team. The ideal candidate will have some experience working with metal—whether that’s cutting, grinding, drilling, or basic fabrication. You’ll be assisting with day-to-day shop operations, material handling, equipment uses and keeping the work area clean and organized.
Assist in cutting, grinding, drilling, and assembling metal parts
Load/unload materials and move them around the shop
Operate hand tools, power tools, and basic shop equipment
Follow safety procedures and wear required PPE at all times
Help maintain a clean and organized work environment
Assist skilled fabricators and welders as needed
Perform basic measurements and quality checks on finished parts
Other general labor duties as assigned
Some experience in a metal shop or similar industrial environment
Comfortable using basic tools like grinders, drills, and saws
Ability to read a tape measure and follow instructions
Strong work ethic and a willingness to learn
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs or appropriate weight and stand for extended periods
Dependable and punctual
Forklift experience or certification
Experience with MIG/TIG welding or CNC operation a plus
Knowledge of basic metal types and fabrication processes
