Job Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Drill Rig Operator is to complete the setup, installation, removal, and teardown of deep well systems at jobsites, and to oversee the mobilization and demobilization to and from jobsites. The Drill Rig Operator is responsible for the timely and safe completion of projects to spec, as well as Drill Rig Machine operations and maintenance. The Drill Rig Operator will complete projects as directed by a Drilling Foreperson or Operations Manager and will serve as a working leader and individual contributor to the overall team’s success.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Complete jobsite walks with a Drill Rig Operator II or higher and/or superintendent prior to starting work to ensure proper understanding of project requirements and spec; maintain open communication regarding changes to ensure the drilling activities meet project requirements
- Enroll in Mersino’s Drill Rig certification program and operate the drill rig under the supervision of a Drilling Foreman to learn general equipment operation, setup/teardown, drilling various soil types, depths and classification, how to pick/set casings with the Drill Rig, etc.
- Train on using rock grabbers and various bucket types, and ensure that Drill Rig safety procedures are established and adhered to at all times including the creation and communication of safety zones when actively drilling
- Prepare/submit daily drilling reports and daily drilling logs under supervision of a Drill Rig Operator II
- Monitor the machine during operations, oversee bucket changes and component swaps throughout operations, and learn to complete comprehensive Drill Rig field repairs as needed
- Assist in performing documented weekly inspections of the Drill Rig, and ensure daily visual inspections and greasing are completed by the Drilling Technician
- Stock and maintain all required tools in Drill Rig support trucks to ensure adequate availability on projects
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of soil types, classifications, and depths; have full knowledge on how to read prints to be able to complete drilling activities safely and efficiently
- Identify locates and ensure the underground utilities safety processes and procedures are followed at all times; partner with sales or the Operations Manager to ensure an underground utility waiver is secured anytime drilling is to be performed outside of marked locates
- Oversee drilling operational support activities including handling pipe and other materials, and assembling and completing deep well system layouts
- Ensure proper set up and tear down of equipment and systems for assigned projects
- Haul CDL-A trailers and/or the Drill Rig to and from site to support drilling operations
- Load, unload and transport materials and equipment to/from job sites
- Move and/or maintain pumps, compressors, generators, hoses, and other equipment, ensuring to utilize proper rigging, lift, and suspended load procedures
- Complete minor repairs of equipment on site as well as preventive maintenance on assigned vehicles or equipment as directed and as required
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain pumps, pumping equipment, and generators including how to start, power up, monitor, inspect, etc.
- Perform refueling activities for equipment on site under direct supervision, ensuring proper safety procedures are followed throughout the process
- Clean, organize and maintain jobsites, yard and shop areas as required
- Adhere to applicable company and regulatory agency environmental, health and safety standards; ensure safe work practices at all times
- Ensure all policies and procedures outlined in the Fleet Safety Program, including DOT requirements, are followed when driving a company vehicle
- Assist in completing site safety activities such as JSA’s, safety observations, incident reports, etc.
- Maintain and complete all necessary paperwork per company policy
- Enroll in an OSHA 30 certification course
- Complete a First-Aid/CPR certification course
- Ensure that The Mersino Way is a guiding document in all daily activities
- Perform other tasks and duties as requested
Qualifications:
- 6-12 months of experience as a Drilling Technician II
- 1.5-2 years of experience in wellpoint or deep well dewatering field operations preferred
- Comprehensive knowledge of deep well system, installation, maintenance, and operation
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid CDL-B license with airbrakes and a clean driving record
- Valid DOT Medical Card
- OSHA 10 Certification
- Rigging & Signalperson Certification
- Rough Terrain Forklift Certification
