Job Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Fusion Technician is to provide support for bypass and fusing operations by completing complex HDPE fusion, as well as the setup, installation, maintenance, removal, and teardown of bypass systems at jobsites, and to assist in the mobilization and demobilization to and from jobsites. The Fusion Technician will generally work under the supervision of a Fusion Foreman or higher and will serve as a working team member and individual contributor to the overall team’s success.

Job Summary:

The Fusion Technician will generally work under the supervision of a Fusion Foreman or higher and will serve as a working team member and individual contributor to the overall team’s success.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Complete jobsite walks with a Fusion Technician II and/or Superintendent, etc. prior to starting work to ensure a proper understanding of project requirements and specifications; maintain open communication regarding changes to plan to ensure project requirements are met
- Enroll in Mersino’s Butt Fusion Certification program up to 48” diameter pipe; complete complex fusion under direct supervision such as multi-pump tie-ins, complicated discharge connections, and learn best placement practices for suction piping
- Complete straight run and miscellaneous component fusing independently, including fusing 45’s, 90’s, tees, valves, single pump tie-ins, and fixed points for discharge connections
- Perform inspections of fusion joints under guidance from a Fusion Technician II, and learn how to determine and complete corrective measures for faulty joints
- Assist in completing daily fusion reports and gathering information for T&M project to be documented and reported on a daily T&M report when required
- Ensure proper use of specialty tools such as chainsaws, including safety procedures and required PPE
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of Fusion Machine operation including being able to independently set up the fusion machine with the correct hydraulic pressures and heat plate temperatures for the pipe that will be fused
- Conduct daily visual and weekly documented fusion machine equipment inspections
- Complete basic fusion machine maintenance independently, and learn how complete complex Fusion Machine repairs
- Assemble and complete bypass system layouts with no supervision, including laying out pipes, bolting flanges, and preparing other materials on site
- Setup and teardown equipment and systems for assigned job operations
- Load, unload and transport materials and equipment to/from job sites
- Move pumps, compressors, generators, hoses, and other equipment, ensuring proper rigging, lift, and suspended load procedures are adhered to at all times
- Complete minor repairs of equipment on site as well as preventive maintenance on assigned vehicles or equipment as directed and as required
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain pumps, pumping equipment, and generators including how to start, power up, monitor, inspect, etc.
- Perform refueling activities for equipment on site under direct supervision, ensuring proper safety procedures are followed throughout the process
- Adhere to applicable company and regulatory agency environmental, health and safety standards; ensure safe work practices at all times
- Ensure all policies and procedures outlined in the Fleet Safety Program, including DOT requirements, are followed when driving a company vehicle
- Lead site safety activities such as JSA’s, safety observations, incident reports, etc.
- Identify locates and ensure the underground utilities safety processes and procedures are followed anytime underground work is completed; partner with sales or the Operations Manager to ensure an underground utility waiver is secured anytime trenching is to be performed outside of marked locates
- Ensure all necessary tools and supplies are stocked in the fusion trailer and readily available at all times
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of soil types, classifications, and depths; have full knowledge on how to read prints to be able to complete bypass activities safely and efficiently
- Clean, organize and maintain jobsites, yard and shop areas as required
- Maintain and complete all necessary paperwork per company policy
- Assist in the training of Bypass Laborers and Bypass Technicians
- Enroll in an OSHA 30 certification course
- Complete a First-Aid/CPR certification course
- 6-9 months of experience as a Bypass Technician II or an equivalent role
- 1.5-2 years of experience in HDPE fusion and bypass field operations experience with proven ability to complete complicated HDPE fusion including 45’s, 90’s tees, valves, single pump tie-ins, and fixed points for discharge connections
- Comprehensive knowledge on fusion machine setup, maintenance, and inspections
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and DOT Medical Card
- Butt Fusion Certification for up to 24” diameter pipe
- OSHA 10 Certification
- Rigging & Signalperson Certification
- Rough Terrain Forklift Certification
