Job Description: Perioperative Registered Nurse
Looking for an individual to join our team who will be training in all areas of our surgery center: Pre-op/Recovery, Circulating in Operating Room, Possibility to scrub.
Position is Part time with the possibility of Full Time at a later date.
Title Perioperative Registered Nurse
Main function Responsible for conducting pre-operative testing, assessment, and preoperative preparation. Provides patient counseling. Performs nursing care for the patient in the immediate post-operative/post-anesthesia period, assessing and documenting patient’s status upon arrival in the recovery room. Provides nursing care to meet patient needs related to surgical condition and type of anesthesia administered, monitoring patient and informing surgeon or anesthetist of observed complications. Prepares, councils and provides education upon discharge. Is knowledgeable in sterile technique and facilitates the flow of surgery when assigned to the operating room.

8. Duties a) Effectively organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel for management of the perioperative area. Organizes nursing activities efficiently, considering staff abilities when delegating activities. b) Uses equipment effectively by anticipating patient needs and providing appropriate care. c) Confirms that proper techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of practice. d) Assists in managing inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels in the perioperative area. e) Maintains order and cleanliness of perioperative area. Assists in assessing the physical and emotional status of the patient prior to admission. f) Provides pre-operative instruction and explanation of patient rights and responsibilities. g) Describes the perioperative experience of the patient/significant other, including what to expect before, during, and after the procedure, and how the significant other will participate. h) Obtains pertinent patient records prior to patient’s arrival for pre-operative testing. i) Performs all pre-operative testing (i.e., laboratory work, electrocardiogram, x-rays, etc.) j) Reports all abnormal values to anesthesiologist/attending surgeon. k) Explains informed consent for surgery, patients’ rights/responsibilities, and preoperative/post- operative instructions. l) Obtains necessary signatures. m) Informs patient about routine care and procedures related to the perioperative experience. n) Discusses all findings with anesthesiologist prior to anesthesiologist’s pre-operative evaluation of patient. o) Provides comfort and reassurance to the patient and supports the patient’s right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality. p) Documents pre-operative care according to policy/procedure q) Ensures that the patient’s chart is completed on the day the surgery is scheduled. r) Performs safe and individualized nursing care for the patient in the immediate post-operative/post- anesthesia period. s) Assesses and documents the patient’s physical and emotional status upon arrival in the recovery room. t) Documents post-anesthesia care and identity of second person in the recovery room during the patient’s recovery from anesthesia/sedation according to approved policies and procedures u) Provides nursing care to meet patient needs related to surgical condition and type of anesthesia administered. v) Monitors patients and informs surgeon or anesthetist of observed complications. w) Performs thorough post-operative patient assessment prior to discharge of the patient. x) Assists in assessing the physical and emotional status of the patient in preparation for discharge. y) Develops a plan of care for the patient based on the assessment data. z) Reviews post-operative instructions and prescriptions from the surgeon with patient and significant other and documents in the patient’s medical record aa) Informs patient and family about appropriate care and procedure to follow upon returning home. bb) Determines that patient and significant other understand conditions that require immediate care/method to obtain immediate care. cc) Provides comfort and reassurance to the patient and promotes privacy and dignity. dd) Ensures that the patient’s chart is completed on the day the surgery is scheduled. ee) Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Required
1. Graduate of accredited school of nursing
2. RN with active license in the state of Montana
3. BLS, ACLS certification within 30 days of hire
4. Evidence of leadership qualities
5. Strong ethical and moral characteristics
6. Language skills adequate for high-level written, interpersonal and telephone communication in English
7. Skilled in IV insertion
8. Ability to keep up in a fast paced environment with minimal direction
