Mesa seeks a Physical Substation Designer for our Power Delivery Substation group with the following skills, knowledge, and abilities :

Possess an understanding of high voltage transmission substation outdoor equipment, as well as be willing to learn the Client’s standards and practices.
Ability to identify, analyze, and solve technical problems related to substation design.
Ability to work independently with direction, while not hesitating to ask questions when needed.
Possess aptitude for developing a strong working relationship with Senior Management, Program Manager, Project Manager, Group Leads, and design staff.
Possess aptitude for developing a strong working relationship with the Client.
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Possess willingness to develop, promote, and comply with Mesa quality requirements.
Possess willingness to develop, promote, and comply with Mesa safety requirements.
Possess working knowledge of computers and software such as AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, and software used for specific technical applications within the group.

Education / Experience / Licensure :

Associates or better in Engineering Technology or related field is preferred.

Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience in 69kV to 500kV substation physical design is required.

Experience in generation plant switchyard physical design is desirable.

Responsibilities

Work under the direction of the Physical Group Lead.

Work with a team to complete substation physical design projects to meet client standards and practices.

Maintain good quality and efficiency while developing deliverables such as : General Arrangements, Equipment Plans, Elevations, Sections, Control House Layouts, Grounding analysis / design, Switchgear design, Conduit and Cable design, Creation of Bills of Material, etc., utilizing AutoCAD.

Foster strong customer relationships through communications and support.

Estimate and assist in the preparation of bid packages.

Attend scoping meetings as requested for projects.

Complete assignments within budget and schedule with a high degree of accuracy to provide quality deliverables.

Mentor other designers / engineers in group to increase knowledge of physical substation design.

Check / review other personnel work for accuracy and adherence to client / national standards.

Independently evaluate, select, and apply engineering principles and practices relevant to the project requirements. Share updates with team and leads to continually improve communications and quality.

Promote a strong safety culture within the team and advocate the incorporation of safe work practices into all activities.

Work with the Physical Group Lead and Program Manager to identify potential areas of engineering process and / or procedure improvements.
