BENEFITS: This full-time position includes a full benefits package including health, dental, vision, life, AD&D, and supplemental insurance coverages as well as HRA and retirement savings. Benefits include vacation and sick leave, and 13 paid holidays.

Requirements:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Oversee Information Services: Develop a proactive reference service model to serve the diverse needs of our community using a variety of communication methods. Ensure that IS staff has the skills and knowledge to provide excellent service in reference, reader’s advisory, regional history, business research and other topics. Schedule resources, organize and establish service priorities, and coordinate activities for optimum patron benefit. Plan, prepare and administer a budget for all department needs. Manage, select and evaluate electronic resources. Inform and educate staff of any changes or updates to e-resources. Manage patron access to community rooms, the digital conversion station or other resources. Assist with the collection management duties of adult materials. Oversee Interlibrary Library Loan operations to most efficiently and effectively meet the needs of our patrons. Ensure that book displays, information racks, signs and other information are current and attractive. Handle problems, concerns and emergencies in a professional manner and according to library policies and procedures.
2. Instruction / Outreach / Programming: Provide oversight for developing, conducting, and coordinating classes, events and presentations for the library district. Provide instruction and resources on the use of information and media technology so that patrons can utilize current and emerging resources. Support regular outreach that meets library goals and objectives. Promote library services and resources by providing presenting to groups outside of the library. Work with the Programming Department to develop programs that reach new audiences and host spot and recurring programs according to MCL guidelines. Work with community organizations as a resource for sharing resources and reaching larger audiences on a variety of interests including Art, History, Business, seniors, travel, gardening and others. Support the Virtual Services Librarian to establish the web site as a fully functioning e-branch. Inform and educate staff on the use of e-resources, OPAC, library web page, new technologies and services. Oversee ongoing initiatives including the AIR program, the Regional History Room, staff picks and others listed in the strategic plan.
3. Supervise Staff: Develop Essential Functions and Performance Standards for IS staff. Provide feedback on an ongoing basis and evaluate each employee regularly. Hire and train new staff to be able to accomplish assigned objectives. Develop staff with coaching, and ongoing training opportunities so that they continue to grow and learn in their positions. Address employee performance problems in a proactive direct manner. Work with staff to create one cohesive team throughout the library district. Ensure that staff members attend staff meetings and trainings including monthly meetings, computer trainings, Library 101 and staff development day. Also ensure that all staff members complete the library technology competencies within the first year of being hired. Conduct regular department meetings and maintain current training documents and department procedures. Work with other managers to provide cross training for staff members so that staff have a better understanding and knowledge of other departments and library operations.
4. Management Team: Participate in the Library District’s management team. Work with other managers to develop needed policies and procedures for the library, and interpret these for staff and patrons. Serve as an example for all staff in providing library service and communicating expectations. Stay current on library issues and trends. Actively participate and contribute to various library committees and activities. Write monthly and annual department reports and others as needed. Make annual presentations to the Library Board of Trustees and other organizations when appropriate. Maintain a fully trained staff and help insure that minimum staffing priorities are met district wide. Work with community organizations to enhance and promote library services. Take on other projects and tasks that assist the Library in achieving specified goals and objectives.

5. Self-development and Expertise: Maintain an expertise in providing reference and information services to patrons visiting the library reaching those beyond library walls. Develop a network of community organizations and businesses as a means to further connect with and serve our community. Maintain a working knowledge of the library profession as it relates to delivering and developing adult programs and services. Oversee the library phone system so that it is operates efficiently and effectivity for staff and patrons. Attend monthly staff meetings and training; attend external trainings and conferences, stay aware of activities via staff wiki, email and regular communication with colleagues.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Sustained posture in a seated position for prolonged periods of time
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited graduate program or the commitment to attain the degree within 3 years of hire
1 – 2 years’ supervisory experience preferred
2 – 3 years’ experience working in a library setting
