BENEFITS: This full-time position includes a full benefits package including health, dental, vision, life, AD&D, and supplemental insurance coverages as well as HRA and retirement savings. Benefits include vacation and sick leave, and 13 paid holidays.
SALARY:
$28.20-$33.21 per hour DOE
SCHEDULE;
Must be able to work a flexible schedule and to be available to work flexible hours to cover unplanned staffing shortages
Requirements:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Oversee Public Services:
- Plans, manages, and oversees the daily functions, operations, and activities of the Public Services department ensuring that expert friendly assistance is provided to all patrons.
- Oversee that all circulation functions, materials handling, shelving, lists and other tasks are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Manage services for public internet computers, printing and study rooms to be equitable and efficient.
- Schedule personnel and resources, organize and establish department priorities, and coordinate activities for optimum patron benefit and staff engagement.
- Oversee WoW, Books by Mail and Hold pick-up operations to ensure effective service.
- Work with other managers and staff to coordinate library procedures so that patrons throughout Mesa County receive consistent high-level service.
- Utilize, train, reward and recognize volunteers appropriately so they feel valued and contribute to a high functioning team environment in the Public Services department.
- Plan, prepare and administer a budget for capital and supply purchases to meet goals and objectives of the center. Assist other departments with programming, outreach, training and serving patrons.
- Handle problems, concerns and emergencies in a professional manner and according to library policies and procedures.
Supervise Staff:
- Develop Essential Functions and Performance Standards for department staff. Provide feedback on an ongoing basis and evaluate each employee regularly.
- Hire and train new staff to be able to accomplish assigned objectives. Develop staff with coaching, and ongoing training opportunities so that they continue to grow and learn in their positions.
- Address employee performance problems in a proactive direct manner.
- Work with HR to ensure that all personnel policies are being followed correctly.
- Work with staff to create one cohesive team throughout the library district.
- Ensure that staff members attend staff meetings and trainings including monthly meetings, computer trainings, Library 101, Staff Development Day and other required training.
- Conduct regular department meetings and maintain current training documents and department procedures. Work with other managers to provide cross training for staff members so that staff have a better understanding and knowledge of other departments and library operations.
Management Team:
- Participate in the Library District’s management team.
- Work with other managers to develop needed policies and procedures for the library and interpret these for staff and patrons.
- Maintain documentation of procedures and organizational information on the staff wiki so that employees have the information they need to succeed in their roles.
- Serve as an example for all staff in providing library service and communicating expectations.
- Stay current on library issues and trends.
- Actively participate and contribute to various library committees and activities.
- Write monthly and annual department reports and others as needed. Make annual presentations to the Library Board of Trustees and other to organizations when appropriate.
- Maintain a fully trained staff and help insure that minimum staffing priorities are met district wide.
- Work with community organizations to enhance and promote library services.
- Take on other projects and tasks at the direction of the Library Director or Associate Director.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
Self-development and Expertise:
- Understand and interpret circulation policies and procedures for the Library District.
- Coordinate and manage circulation technology and automation issues in collaboration with Marmot Library Network and other Marmot libraries.
- Serve on Access Services Committee for Marmot.
- Maintain expertise in the operation of all RFID equipment and software along with a good working relationship with vendor support to ensure effective operation of services.
- Analyze and understand department workflow and capacity to maintain effective operations and set priorities efficiently.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and training; attend external training and conferences, stay aware of activities via staff wiki, email and regular communication with colleagues.
Performs other duties as assigned or requested

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to remain standing or bending for extended periods of time

Ability to read a minimum print size equal to 10 point
Ability to tolerate dust, mold, etc. that may have accumulated on books
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
Ability to communicate verbally

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
2 – 3 years supervisory experience preferred
3 – 5 years library experience required
Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
