SUMMARY : Operating under the general supervision of the Mechanical Systems Supervisor this employee operates as the primary position responsible for the District's electrical systems integrity through maintenance, installations, and regular replacement schedules. They are responsible for managing existing systems, implementing updates and providing interfacing for the District's 45 buildings / sites. The Master Electrician is often involved in the district's construction projects, especially remodels. Employee is often a primary point of contact for staff interacting with the Maintenance Department and there is an expectation of excellent customer service and to work cooperatively to facilitate these duties.

Job Responsibility Descriptions

  • Working as a member of the District's Maintenance Team the Master Electrician is a part of the daily operations of District's 45 buildings / sites. Duties assigned may include performing building and room surveys; providing a technical expertise related to all electrical system designs, installations, programming, and on-going maintenance. Employee ensures recommendations are compatible with existing systems and may include electronic analog, digital and microprocessor-based equipment. During new construction or remodel projects this employee is responsible to ensure systems are able to meet each building's needs which includes providing open-bid specifications and producing equipment maps / schematics. In addition, this role assists with utility location and power outage response as requested. On occasion the employee may be assigned other non-related electrical duties as assigned or requested such as helping out other trades.
  • Performs regularly scheduled preventive electrical maintenance, servicing, and replacement of circuits, switches and other electrical equipment per state and local statutes, codes, and District policies. In addition, the employee acts to implement cost-effective measures to improve safety and reliability. This position is a customer service representative for the Maintenance Department in regards to service and repair call responsiveness and as such there is an expectation to provide the highest standards of customer care and to facilitate positive interactions.
  • Assists the Supervisor and other team members in providing consultation and direction for outside contractors and vendors. This role will work on long-term solutions for existing buildings that may include planning for remodeling and or modular additions. Duties may include working with vendors in larger purchase orders as requested as well as problem solving an issue. Employee tracks project queueing for task and activity completion as well as tracking timelines and reports any problems or concerns to the appropriate Supervisor or other team members as necessary. Employee may provide feedback and input regarding decisions on electrical systems, outside contractors, and supply vendors.
  • Attends a variety of department level meetings that may include outside vendors, inspectors, or other outside agencies. Other administrative duties include assisting with equipment and parts inventories and including managing ordering / purchasing needs. In addition, there is some expectation for regular documentation, paperwork submissions and reporting especially as it may relate to any new projects and tracking budget to actual costs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE :

  • Master Electrical Licensure required within 6 months of hire;
  • Maintenance of Master Electrical License through Continuing Education and testing required;
  • Minimum of five years' experience performing electrical instalations and / or work in commercial / government construction contracts;
  • Acceptable demonstration of education and / or experience is at the sole discretion of the district.
  • LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS :

  • Criminal background check required for hire;
  • EPA 16-hour O&M Asbestos training required within 30 days of hire;
  • Valid Colorado driver's license required for hire;
  • Must meet District vehicle insurable eligibility requirements for hire;
  • Attend and successfully complete all professional development training as required by law or as directed by the Director of Maintenance.
  • AVAILABILITY :

  • Position shares secondary emergency call-out duties with other team members which may require work outside of the normal schedule. While infrequently, employee may be required to respond to after-hours mechanical emergent needs including nights and / or weekends. In some instances, calls can be handled telephonically but may also require on-site response.
  • TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES :

    Legal Knowledge - Employee must possess a working knowledge of, promote and enact several federal, state, and District policies, standards, procedures, regarding electrical systems regulatory compliance. This position is responsible for supporting District personnel in understanding and abiding by legal and ethical boundaries as outlined in :

  • OSHA (29 CFR 1910.1101 and 1910.134);
  • Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA 2015);
  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA, 2004);
  • Title VI of the Civil Rights Act (1964).
  • Other Knowledge - professional expectations include but are not limited to :

  • Excellent understanding of and ability to interpret and implement National, State, and Local Electrical Code protocols and regulations;
  • Excellent understanding of and ability to interpret and implement applicable OSHA's Safety & Data Sheet protocols and regulations;
  • Excellent customer service and public relations oral and written communication skills with consultative abilities;
  • Well-developed organizational, scheduling, report writing and record keeping skills;
  • Well-developed team-building and interpersonal relationship skills required;
  • Strong ability to work independently as needed with minimal direction and / or supervision;
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction electrical systems blue prints, schematics, and to draw diagrams, sketches and basic plans;
  • Strong knowledge of electronic systems parts and equipment inventory tracking, ordering, and purchasing;
  • Ability to apply basic math, and budgeting skills including preparing project projections;
  • Ability to develop and evaluate safe processes and schedules resolving electronic systems safety issues;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and frequent interruptions in a timely manner;
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible with collaborative critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities;
  • Ability to use de-escalation skills to diffuse and manage stressful and fluid situations;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job; especially as related to personnel issues;
  • Ability to advocate for students from diverse backgrounds and with diverse abilities;
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, building and department procedures;
  • Ability to lead, communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds;
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, and to resolve / report unsafe conditions to Supervisor as appropriate.
  • MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE :

  • Operating knowledge of bucket and scissor truck as well as man and fork lift certification required within 1 year of hire;
  • Operating knowledge of basic hand and power tools;
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers, peripherals, and keyboarding skills;
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with software programs for word processing, spreadsheets, schematics, email, and online computing platforms including G-Suite and Office 365 integrated educational packages;
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, etc.;
  • District approved uniform and equipment is required.
