What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructional Coach - Culturally and Linguistically Diverse position at Mesa County Valley School District 51?
- Working as a liaison between the D51 ESL Specialist, school sites, Learning Communities, and educators to document required standards, adopt curriculum, and plan for instruction delivery;
- Collaborating with Special Populations departments to ensure equitable programming and continued academic progress for English language learners with specialized learning needs;
- Developing and adjusting curriculum supporting resources that assist ESL teachers in supporting student mastery of content-specific standards and Colorado English Language Proficiency Standards (CELP);
- Developing and maintaining systems of support for building Learning Communities regarding strategies for working with English language learners;
- Providing support to ESL teachers and schools in terms of accountability, collection, and review of paperwork that assure compliance with state and federal laws;
- Responding to teacher, school, parent, and community needs including informal requests regarding policies, procedures, and programming for English language learners.
- Teaching methodologies and best practices that align to the Teaching and Learning Framework and are effective in improving outcomes for English language learners;
- Sharing research, information and or resources (articles, materials, etc.) for teachers that align to D51 Standards, the Teaching and Learning Framework, World Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA)’s key issues, and support language acquisition;
- Supporting ESL teachers in writing language centered instructional goals for identified students and facilitating the development of processes for dually identified students and for like-peer comparisons;
- Facilitating ESL teachers to work collaboratively with other teachers and support staff sharing learned strategies for working with English language learners;
- Assisting with the coordination of the 5th, 8th, and 12th grade Seal of Biliteracy programs;
- Supporting student assessments including WIDA Screener/ACCESS with results used as a catalyst for program improvements;
- Coordinating data collection and analysis to monitor English Language Development (ELD) programming and student academic success during and after receiving English language development services.

- Assisting leadership providing crucial information regarding each new teacher’s practice(s), professional learning needs, and providing input,
- Working with other Instructional Coaches, the Professional Learning Director, and site leaders to assess the professional learning needs of ESL/ELL teachers in the school/district.
- Coordinating with the Curriculum and Learning Design and Professional Learning Directors to align professional learning for the continuous improvement of all our instructional staff.
- Leading and/or participating in meetings, workshops and seminars with responsibilities to remain up to date on research based teaching and learning practices and current trends.
- Valid Colorado Teacher’s license with English Language Acquisition or other acceptable endorsement*;
- Valid Colorado driver’s license
- Master’s degree in education plus additional English Language Learners coursework required for certification or licensure*
- Minimum of five years’ experience in Classroom Teacher role;
- Minimum two years of demonstrated professional learning facilitation experience in Performanced/Competency-Based system;
- Attend and successfully complete all staff development training as required by state law or as directed by their Supervisor.
- (Acceptable education and experience equivalent will be at the sole discretion of the District)
- Teachers are initially placed according to experience. Teachers new to the District may be granted up to 15 years of experience, provided the experience occurred within the last 20 years in accordance with the MVEA Agreement.

Job Summary:
The Instructional Coach operates from a solution oriented stance to ensure the success of ESL/ELL teachers at the individual educator, site, and district levels. As a change/catalyst leader in our District this role works to support system alignments as teachers apply ESL curriculum and development plans. This role requires an understanding of the philosophy of standards based education, the D51 Learning Model, Teaching & Learning Framework including the processes of curriculum development and its effectiveness in the school. In addition, the employee provides a high level of knowledge regarding current English Language Learners and teaching English as a Second Language educational trends, programs and opportunities. Responsibilities within this area include designing, developing, implementing, monitoring the effectiveness and ensuring continuous improvements of the District’s comprehensive English Language Learners Program.
