    Pay Range: CH 6 $1757 - $19.97

    Work Year: 171 Days / 6 Hours

    SUMMARY: Operating under the general supervision of the school’s Principal or designee, the employee creates an experiential learning environment centered on technologies and entry-level computer skill building activities that is alignment with the D51 Learning Model. Employee acts as a teacher resource working directly with students and reinforcing the D51 Learning Model preparing and coaching students with lessons often contributing to a theme, project or lesson plan within the student’s home classroom. The paraprofessional is an integral part of the District’s social emotional learning programs leading students through example. This position is also often a point of contact for the staff and students with computer usage, access or other technology issues and the employee must work cooperatively to facilitate these interactions.

    Job Responsibility Descriptions

    • Creates an experiential learning environment centered on technologies and entry-level computer skill building activities that is alignment with the D51 Learning Model. Employee actively collaborates with Teachers, Building Leaders, and Special Service Providers to provide introductory technology instruction. Daily activities of this position are varied and often contain elements of coaching students on both the physical and mental aspects of technology usage. Lessons are adaptable for individual needs and often contribute to a theme, project or lesson plan within the student’s home classroom.


    • Coaching students in daily lessons to build physical skills sets the employee helps students to gain mastery regarding the correct posture, hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity and visual tracking needed to be successful learning with technology. In addition, the Para works with students on understanding a wide variety of software programs, processes, and procedures including log-ons, password protections, appropriate exploration, researching and sourcing data. This position has some administrative duties regarding technology in their school including but not limited to; overseeing the student Responsible Use Agreements (RUA), internet account accessibility, and maintaining the physical inventory reports of all computer equipment assigned to the school.


    • Oversees the development and implementation of grade level cyber safety lessons for students. Students receive lessons on being responsible for and protecting their activities in the cyber environment. The Technology Paraprofessional provides lessons and sets expectations for students on protecting their cyber privacy, recognizing a stranger on-line, how to hike around the internet safely, social media and other sharing appropriately lessons, introductory ethics around not copying without crediting sources, and on-line anti-bullying. As technology is dynamic and ever evolving, the Technology Paraprofessional is expected to maintain a general awareness of current technology developments and as appropriate adapts lessons and instruction accordingly.


    • Troubleshoots problems with computers, software, printing malfunctions, installation, integrations, and system maintenance for their assigned classroom/building as needed. As available this employee provides a level of support to other staff with classroom/building technology issues to improve the learning environment for students. In many cases the Technology Para is a primary point of contact regarding computer technology in the building and there is an expectation for a high level of customer service and professional interactions to facilitate these interactions.


    • Supporting the needs of the assigned school the Technology Paraprofessional may also be assigned before and/or after school bus stop monitoring duties, lunch-room monitoring and/or recess duties as well. Paraprofessional may also participate in special site projects outside of the classroom as new systems and software are adopted toward the D51 Learning Model. Note: The actual duties of this position may vary based on the current building assignment.


    • Perform other duties as assigned.



    EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required and*;
    • Minimum two years of experience working with primary-level students; preference given for prior school district experience;
    • Preference given for computer proficiency;
    • Bilingual oral and written skills, English/Spanish, are desirable;
      • Acceptable demonstration of education and/or experience is at the sole discretion of the district.

    LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:
    • Criminal background check required for hire;
    • Valid Colorado driver’s license or valid state identification required;
    • Attend and successfully complete all staff development training as required by state law or as directed by supervisor.

    TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
    • Exceptional oral, written communication and group presentation skills in English;
      • Ability to use Spanish oral communication skills is desirable;
    • Exceptional interpersonal relationship building, student focused service, and public relations skills;
    • Expertise in applying computer knowledge and technology skills to work product for non-expert beginning end users;
    • Exceptional ability to display complex concepts in an understandable format;
    • Exceptional personal computer, keyboarding, and data entry skills;
    • Strong professional written communication skills;
    • Strong working knowledge of education laws and statutes as outlined in the:
      • Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA, 2015),
      • Exceptional Children’s Education Act (ECEA, 2013)
      • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA, 2004)
      • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA, 1996)
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job; especially related to student, and personnel issues;
    • Ability to work independently as needed with minimal direction and/or supervision;
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and frequent interruptions in a timely manner;
    • Ability to be adaptable and flexible with critical thinking and problem solving capabilities;
    • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, building and department procedures;
    • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds;
    • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

    MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
    • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals;
    • Operating knowledge of and experience with office software such as word processing and spreadsheets, and email;
    • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as copier, scanner, fax machine, etc.;
    • Operating knowledge of copy machine and audio-visual equipment (e.g., VCRs, movie projectors, overhead projectors, etc.) required within 1 month after hire;
    • Operating knowledge of digital camera required within 3 months after hire;
    • Operating knowledge of laminator and binding machine preferred at hire.
