Work Year : 260 Days / 8 Hours

SUMMARY : Operating under the general supervision of the Maintenance Mechanical Supervisor this position is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of all assigned plumbing systems. This position works closely with other Maintenance staff including Journeyman Plumbers, Electricians, HVAC Technicians and Equipment Repair to ensure District-wide work orders are completed safely and accurately. This role conducts regular building plumbing inspections and may participate in various construction related projects each year. Employee is responsible for providing services in a professional manner and developing good relations among impacted community and school clientele.

Job Responsibility Descriptions

  • Install, repair and maintain plumbing systems in all assigned district buildings and facilities. Install new plumbing fixtures including, but not limited to, sinks, commodes, urinals, faucets, drinking fountains and domestic water heaters. Troubleshoot, repair and maintain plumbing equipment including, but not limited to, faucets, grease traps, flush valves, sinks, water heaters, commodes, drinking fountains, photo processing equipment, domestic water heater pumps, flush meters and water meters.
  • Respond to emergency plumbing calls such as clogged drains, broken water lines and frozen pipes. Evaluate situation and take corrective action as needed for repair.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and repairs in all district facilities including, but not limited to, domestic water systems and sanitary waste drainage and natural gas systems.
  • Order parts and materials, and maintain inventory and records. Provide estimates as needed.
  • Install, test, repair and or replaces backflow prevention devices in and around assigned schools and buildings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

AVAILABILITY :

This position requires the ability and willingness to respond to 24 / 7 / 365 emergency call-outs and this may include atypical hours and / or weekends as emergencies arise. Employee participates in a pool of emergency call-out staff. On occasions when the employee does not work a regular or common overtime schedule, there is an expectation to use a fully flexible workweek Sunday- Saturday adjusting hours accordingly.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE :

  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
  • Minimum of three years of experience in basic overall plumbing knowledge with some repair experience required;
  • Preference for demonstrated knowledge of the UPC (Uniform Plumbing Code), and UMC (Uniform Mechanical Code);
  • Acceptable education and experience equivalent will be at the sole discretion of the District
  • LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS :

  • Criminal background check required for hire;
  • Valid Colorado driver's license required for hire.
  • Valid Colorado State Master Plumber License required for hire;
  • District approved "lift test" required at time of hire (50 Pounds); recertification every 3 years;
  • District small vehicle permit required within 30 days of hire;
  • Attend and successfully complete all staff development and recertification training as required by regulatory agencies or as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES :

    Legal Knowledge - This role must possess a working knowledge of, promote and enact several federal, state, and District policies, standards, procedures, regarding environmental compliance regulations. This position supports District personnel in abiding by legal and ethical boundaries as outlined in :

  • Hazardous Waste-Rules and Regulations Governing Schools In The State Of Colorado (6CCR 1010-6);
  • Department of Transportation (49 CFR Parts 100-185);
  • OSHA (29 CFR 1910.1101 and 1910.134);
  • Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA 2015);
  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA, 2004);
  • Title VI of the Civil Rights Act (1964).
  • Other Knowledge - professional expectations include but are not limited to :

  • Excellent knowledge of water treatment systems, methods, and best practices;
  • Excellent customer service and public relations oral and written communication skills with consultative abilities;
  • Well-developed organizational, scheduling, report writing and record keeping skills;
  • Ability to interpret and implement OSHA's Safety & Data Sheet protocols and regulations;
  • Ability to work within a team and interpersonal relationship skills required;
  • Ability to apply basic math skills including preparing project projections;
  • Ability to develop and evaluate safe processes and schedules resolving mechanical / HVAC health & safety issues;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and frequent interruptions in a timely manner;
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible with collaborative critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities;
  • Ability to use de-escalation skills to diffuse and manage stressful and fluid situations;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job; especially as related to personnel issues;
  • Ability to advocate for students from diverse backgrounds and with diverse abilities;
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, building and department procedures;
  • Ability to lead, communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds;
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, and to resolve / report unsafe conditions to Supervisor as appropriate.
  • MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE :

  • Operating knowledge of basic hand and power tools used in plumbing;
  • Preference given for knowledge of and experience with water testing and related equipment;
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers, peripherals, and keyboarding skills;
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with software programs for word processing, spreadsheets, schematics, email, and online computing platforms including G-Suite and Office 365 integrated educational packages;
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, etc.;
  • District approved uniform and equipment is required.
