Performs work involving operating complex construction and right-of-way equipment. Repairs and maintains roads, rights-of-way; performs traffic control duties; performs minor repairs and maintenance on equipment.
Employee is subject to federal Department of Transportation Commercial Drivers Drug/Alcohol Testing and Mesa County Drug/Alcohol testing policies.
Operates complex construction and maintenance equipment such as dump truck, front end loader, water truck, single axle and tandem axle truck, compactor, snow plow, chipper, sanders, spreaders, sealers, motor grader, mower tractor, dozer and backhoe in order to perform maintenance activities.
Assists with traffic control at road construction sites by directing traffic and assisting other equipment operators in maneuvering equipment.
Performs routine maintenance on equipment such as checking oil and fluid levels, checking tire pressure, and checking belts.
Demolishes concrete and asphalt with available equipment as directed. Makes repairs using available materials as assigned. Work may involve excavation, backfill, tying rebar, setting forms, setting grades, pouring and finishing concrete, placing hot or cold mix asphalt, and other related duties as directed. Ability and knowledge to fill portable propane tanks from propane filling station.
Performs road, field and right-of-way repair and maintenance duties as directed.
Operates mower tractors and other right-of-way maintenance equipment in order to mow and edge grass and trim trees and shrubbery.
Removes old pipe and excavates for new pipes using backhoe and skid steer loader; transports pipe and equipment to job site; sets new pipe in place, levels and ensures correct elevations of pipe using transit; occasionally locates backfill material, loads it, and hauls it to job site using various equipment; backfills excavations, removes excess backfill material. Frequently required to be on 24 Hour call out status.
Clears plugged culverts and storm drains using jet rodder, and other equipment.
Employee is subject to Emergency call out with 60 minute response time to emergency conditions of county roads.
Oral and written communications must be clear and effective.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of related experience.
Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.
Licenses and Certifications:
Class “A” or “B” Colorado Commercial Driver's License -- Tanker Endorsement
(endorsement can be obtained after hire)
State Flagger Certification (can be attained after hire)
Brake Certification (can be attained after hire)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 100 pounds.
The employee is frequently exposed to dirt, smoke, fumes, extreme heat and cold for long duration, outside atmospheric conditions, traffic noise, and dust for sustained periods of time. Occasional exposure to mud/rock/snow/slide conditions and flash flooding.
The employee is frequently exposed to possible bodily injury from moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools, and machinery.
The employee is occasionally exposed to possible bodily injury from electrical shock, falling from high places, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
While performing the essential functions of this job, shaking objects or surfaces; conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, mists, gases, and poor ventilation that affect the respiratory system eyes, or the skin.
The employee is frequently exposed to loud noise, high speed and high volume road conditions and other traffic hazards.
