JOB SUMMARY: Provides assistance to victims and/or witnesses of juvenile and misdemeanor constitutional crimes through direct services of the Victim Witness Programs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non-essential or marginal duties that may be required. Assist victims in filling out necessary forms (i.e., Victim Compensation Applications, Victim Impact Statements and affidavits.Informing victims of constitutional rights and court proceedings. Notify victims and witnesses of hearings and cancellations. Assist in travel and lodging arrangements when required for court events. Coordinate appearance of victims and witnesses for trials and other hearings. Assist Director of Victim Services as needed. Serve on related executive boards and participate in appropriate task forces. Provide training to law enforcement and other agencies or entities that request training on Victim’s rights issues. Interact with courts, probation, pretrial services law enforcement, victim and prosecutor. Gather all reports necessary to conduct proceedings in domestic violence cases. Read and evaluate reports. Assess any special needs of crime victims. Meet with victim daily to gather history on offender and relationship. Obtain information relevant to prosecution and disposition of the case. Attend court proceedings with victims and refer to appropriate community resources. Enter victim information in Action, event, and print notifications letters. Utilize New World and Courts Data Access for additional information regarding the criminal case. If assigned to the Domestic Violence case load, Victim Specialist will responsible for the following duties: Monitor case for changes in victim/offender relationship, ensure all cases that meet DVRT (Domestic Violence Response Team) criteria are referred and reviewed by DVRT for additional services. Victim Specialist will work with community partners to help ensure victim safety. Cover other Victim Specialists as needed. Oral and written communications must be clear and effective. Performs other related duties as assigned. Demonstrate professionalism, composure, and appropriate interpersonal skills during performance of tasks, duties and responsibilities that take place in this adversarial system. This adversarial system includes contentious dealings (in person, by phone, electronically, or by written correspondence) with opposing counsel, upset individuals that may be defendants, victims, witnesses, law enforcement, or other members of the public, often resulting in mental and physical stresses. Demonstrate professionalism, composure, and appropriate interpersonal skills in reviewing and/or discussing information pertaining to criminal cases. These criminal cases require frequent exposure to assaults and murders, including, but not limited to, physical assaults, verbal abuse, sexual assaults (upon adults and children), and child abuse. The discovery in the cases will also require frequent exposure to gruesome, disturbing, and/or sexually explicit photographs, images and recordings.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Work is generally confined to a standard office environment. The District Attorney's Office allows for an increase in pay based on the following factors: · A seniority system that rewards employees based on length of employment;· A merit system that rewards employees for exceptional job performance;· An incentive system that pays employees based on the quality of their work or the amount of work they perform; or· Education, training, or experience to the extent that they are reasonably related to the work in question.
