Job Summary:
To assess the communication needs of hearing-impaired students in order to coordinate services of educational interpreters; to hire and evaluate educational interpreters; to manage cost effectiveness of hearing-impaired services; and to provide interpreting services.
Candidates must complete an on-line application which requires appropriate Arizona certification, valid IVP Arizona fingerprint clearance card, evidence of highly qualified status, three letters of recommendation, and transcript of credits.

- Hire, supervise, mentor, and support educational interpreters and conduct performance evaluations of assigned personnel according to district guidelines
- Coordinate the schedules of hearing-impaired students and teachers in a timely manner to meet communication needs
- Coordinate interpreting requests outside of student class schedules, absences, and last-minute requests
- Align the communication needs of hearing-impaired students with the appropriate educational interpreter
- Monitor cost-effectiveness of services to meet individual student needs
- Oversee documentation of service hours in support of the hearing-impaired program to ensure accurate data retrieval for reporting purposes
- Arrange for interpreting services with contracted agencies when needed
- Uphold and enforce school rules, administration instructions and regulations, Board policy, and state regulations
- Continue professional growth as an educational interpreter
- Perform all other duties as may be assigned by the Hearing-Impaired Program Area Director
- Collaborate with department and school leaders, supervisors, and staff to align processes and procedures, while actively seeking their input, leading or participating in joint committees and working groups
- Focus on continuous improvement by analyzing data, assessing systems and timelines, and recommending adjustments to enhance procedures and strategies, providing root cause analysis and suggestions to the administration
- Identify opportunities to optimize the use of various information systems and liaise with system representatives to stay informed on updates and explore potential improvements
- Work with administration and staff to identify ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness in assigned areas and related departmental functions
- Develop and execute both short- and long-term goals for assigned responsibilities
- Stay informed on federal and state laws and best practices relevant to the assigned area through ongoing research
- Manage special projects and perform additional tasks related to areas of responsibility as assigned by administration
- Assist with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools
To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications. Verification of these required qualifications is necessary.
Education:
- High School education or equivalent
- Passing score on the Educational Interpreter Performance (EIPA)
- Certified in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Fluency in American Sign Language to provide sign to voice and voice to sign interpreting
- 3–5 years of experience in professional interpretation and translation, preferably in an educational setting
