OVERVIEW
To oversee district security personnel and the district’s emergency response and crisis management protocols; to enforce truancy and disciplinary policies; and to provide for the welfare and safety of Mesa Public Schools students, employees and visitors.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Community college and/or Bachelor’s degree with job related studies preferred
- Knowledge of Arizona Revised Statutes regarding school related issues
- Knowledge of security patrol and emergency techniques and procedures
- Knowledge of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act
- Extensive experience in the supervision of employees
- Computer proficiency to include use of basic software applications (Word, Excel, etc)
- Ability to work well with students, parents, district personnel of all levels and general public; good verbal and written communication skills
DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES
- Respond to emergencies
- Determine and implement recommendations to ensure the department functions in a safe and efficient manner
- Assist school crisis management teams in the implementation of a unique crisis management plan by providing information on procedures and protocols to parents, students and staff.
- Arrange assessment, training, practice drills and apply evaluation results to school and district-level program improvements
- Either arrange for or provide instruction in NIMS (National Incident Management System) courses of 100, 200, 700 & 800 to designated school personnel
- Prepare documentation (i.e. correspondence, memos, schedules, reports, etc) to provide written support and/or to convey information
- Recommend policies, procedures and/or actions as related to security for Mesa Public Schools
- Supervise department functions to include the hiring and terminating of personnel
- Communicate school policies and enforce procedures to students, district personnel, visitors and public
- Support the Director of School Safety and Attendance by assisting with the job functions of planning and implementing the District’s overall security program
- Ability to understand, operate and instruct regarding the use of the Security Camera Systems
