Fence Crew
Position Title: Fence Crew, 1 person
Department: Cattle Growers
Employment Status: Non-Exempt Grade: NE5/$15.50 per hour
Opening date: March 20, 2025 Closing date: April 4, 2025
Job Summary
Installs new fencing, performs maintenance and repairs or reconnects existing fences.
This position description may not include all of the listed duties, nor do all of the listed examples include all tasks which
may be found or assigned to this position.
Duties and Responsibilities
Performs maintenance and repairs on reservation fencing.
Cuts fencing, weeds and grass, digs holes and trenches with hand tools or using a weed hedger.
Measures and cuts poles, posts, and braces to build fences, gates, or other structures on or around land
use areas.
Removes old fence or fencing material when needed.
Installs new fences per specification.
Welds components for fences.
Installs silt/right of way fencing with gates.
Inspects machinery and mechanical equipment for defects; performs minor repairs and maintenance on
equipment.
Ensures all materials are on the truck prior to starting the shift.
Cuts trees and other debris off of fence line.
Assists other departments as needed.
May operate heavy equipment.
Operates power saw, chain saw, heavy equipment and welder.
Observes safety rules, and ensures and maintains a safe environment; ensures that all equipment and
tools are clean and safe to operate.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Three years maintenance or repair experience preferred.
Experience with welding and power tools.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must have a valid NM Driver’s License.
Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.
Tribal preference and Native American Indian preference shall apply to all positions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices.
Knowledge of the methods and practices used in preventive maintenance and repair work.
Knowledge of fencing materials.
Skill in utilizing backhoe, bobcat, front end loader, and auger, welder, saws and basic hand and electrical
tools.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural
backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.
Ability to accomplish tasks within strict deadlines.
Ability to weld.
Ability to use hand tools.
Ability to operate and maintain equipment.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger,
handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, crouch,
or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to sit; climb or balance; and smell. The
employee must lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is generally performed outdoors. Exposure to natural weather conditions and various dusts and mists
may occur while performing outdoor duties. Prolonged sitting while driving is a daily occurrence. Standing and
walking may be on uneven surfaces or unstable ground. Situations where safety-toe shoes, safety goggles,
gloves, protective face shields, or hardhats are needed may occur. Travel within the reservation area is required
for completing work orders.
