JOB SUMMARY:
The Electrical Controls Engineer plays a crucial role within a company focused on robotics and automation. This position involves planning, process defining, commissioning, troubleshooting, testing, and optimizing industrial electrical control systems. The Electrical Controls Engineer collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams. This role requires professionalism as well as technical expertise in automated equipment, PLC/HMI/Robotic programming, and a creative approach to problem-solving.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preferred degree in Mechatronics or Electrical engineering, or military experience.
- Strong understanding of control system hardware including: PLC’s, VFD’s, Servos, industrial robots, and vision systems
- 3 Years or more of industrial automation integration experience.
- Ability to read and troubleshoot ladder logic and some structured text programming.
- Familiarity with using test equipment such as a multi-meter and ammeter.
- Good collaboration skills with engineering and manufacturing personnel.
- Have excellent computer skills.
- Adaptability to a dynamic work environment
- Experience with at least one of the following automation platforms:
- Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Omron
- Experience with at least one of the following robotic platforms:
- Fanuc, Yaskawa (Motoman), ABB, or Epson
- Experience with at least one of the following machine vision platforms:
- Cognex or Keyence
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design and Planning of industrial control systems
- Hardware specification for control panel and field wiring
- Understanding of NFPA79, UL508A, A3 (formally RIA), and NEC codes
- PLC programming to meet the application requirements in an organized and effective manner for ease of troubleshooting and commissioning.
- HMI programming to yield an intuitive view of the process for diagnostics and control.
Commissioning of automation system:
- Troubleshoot custom control circuits. 480VAC, 24VDC, I/O signaling, communication networks, and safety.
- Perform I/O checkout, communication setup of control systems.
- Load firmware, setup communications, commission VFD’s and servos.
- Follow check sheets to ensure quality is adhered to on the system.
- Perform PLC and HMI software modifications as needed to ensure proper function.
- Work with engineering teams to update any electrical or mechanical drawings.
- Assist with Factory Acceptance Test prep and implementation of automated equipment.
- Assist with installation at customer and Site Acceptance Test. (Up to 25% travel)
Robotic and motion tuning:
- Perform robotic setup:
- Communications
- Load programs
- Ensure robot has correct options
- Teach Tool Center Point(s) (TCP)
- Teach user frames or work objects
- Setup and tune servos and VFD’s
- Ensure proper configuration for position scaling.
- Tune servo loops for proper performance.
Troubleshooting, Problem Solving, and Continuous Improvement:
- Troubleshooting and resolving electrical issues during integration and testing phases.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address design-related challenges and optimize system performance.
- Provide feedback to engineering for continuous improvement.
Salary : $95,000 - $120,000
