What are the responsibilities and job description for the Classroom Teacher position at Meskwaki Elementary School?
JOB TITLE: Teacher, K-5
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Foster a positive classroom culture by implementing effective classroom management strategies.
- Assess student progress through assignments, tests, and observation, providing constructive feedback to students and parents.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay updated with best teaching practices.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.
- Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes active learning.
- Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and school administrators to support student learning and well-being.
- Assist with Cultural activities.
- Create and assist with extracurricular activities.
- Develop and maintain a daily program chart and record of students as it pertains to other classroom programs (i.e. Chapter 1, Special Education, Gifted and Talented, etc.)
- Uphold school policies, procedures, and ethical teaching practices.
- Maintain, in cooperation with the Principal and colleagues, good order and discipline in the classroom and school premises, consistent with the Meskwaki Settlement School Disciplinary Policy.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons in accordance with the school's curriculum and educational standards.
- Prepare and display a schedule of all curricular activities of the class.
- Prepare daily and yearly plans of all curricular activities of the class.
- Provide daily supervision and guidance and work as a team with teacher associates.
- Take training in programs that are necessary for the well being of each child (i.e. First Aid, Bloodborne pathogens, CPR)
- Will be directly responsible and be under the direct supervision of the Principal.
- Utilize technology and innovative teaching strategies to enhance learning experiences.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a Bachelor's Degree and Certification required by the Bureau of Indian Education and the State of Iowa.
- Must pass a background check per Public Law 101-630, Public Law 101-647, and the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- Previous teaching experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong knowledge of child development and age-appropriate teaching strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to create a positive and engaging learning environment.
- Proficiency in classroom technology and digital learning tools.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
