What are the responsibilities and job description for the Generic - Bus Driver (Activities) position at Mesquite ISD?
- To be on call to drive school buses for extracurricular activities and available to cover routes as needed while providing safe transportation for students by driving in compliance with traffic regulations over specified routes according to schedule so students may enjoy the fullest possible advantages from the district’s curriculum and extra-curricular programs.
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Valid Texas Class “A” or “B” Commercial Driver’s License, with “P” and “S” endorsements.
- Must pass DOT Drug/Alcohol screening and DOT physical.
- Acceptable driving record
- Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Must pass the DPS Medical Examination Report for school bus drivers
- Possess an acceptable driving record in accordance with the standards developed jointly by the Texas Education Agency and the Department of Public Safety.
- Maintain safety precautions when students are boarding and departing the vehicle.
- Maintain discipline and report student discipline problems to the appropriate administrator.
- Follow the assigned route and adhere to established schedules.
- Transport only authorized students.
- Make neat, legible, and accurate reports as required.
- Report all accidents, vehicle damage, and student injuries, and complete required reports.
- Abide by school district policies, and state and federal laws that relate to student transportation.
- Maintain a good working relationship with campus and office staff, parents, and students.
- Must be flexible.
- Complete in-service and safety training as required by the district.
- Check for mechanical defects before and after each operation of the vehicle and notify the supervisor of needed repairs.

- Maintain safety equipment such as first aid kits and fire equipment.
