A Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring that the organization adheres to all legal, regulatory, and ethical standards. This role is critical in maintaining the integrity and reputation of Mesquite Treatment Center, LLC by preventing fraud, ensuring client/resident safety, and keeping operations within the bounds of the law.
Key Responsibilities:
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Monitor and ensure adherence to healthcare laws, including HIPAA, the HHSC State Standards, Medicare/Medicaid regulations, and others.
- Keep the organization updated on changes in regulations and healthcare laws that may impact operations.
- Policy Development:
- Develop, implement, and update policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and ethical standards.
- Work with various departments to integrate these policies into daily operations.
- Training and Education:
- Educate and train staff on healthcare compliance issues, ensuring they are aware of the rules, regulations, and internal policies.
- Provide ongoing training to maintain awareness of compliance best practices and regulatory changes.
- Internal Audits and Investigations:
- Conduct regular audits to detect non-compliance or potential fraud, waste, and abuse.
- Investigate any allegations of non-compliance, including those related to billing practices, client/resident safety, or employee conduct.
- Risk Management:
- Assess and mitigate compliance-related risks to the organization.
- Work with other departments, like legal and finance, to develop strategies to reduce potential risks.
- Reporting:
- Ensure proper documentation and reporting of compliance activities to senior management, regulators, and auditors.
- Develop and submit compliance reports as required by governmental or accrediting bodies.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with various teams, including healthcare providers, legal counsel, and administrators, to foster a culture of compliance throughout the organization.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards, such as those required by The Joint Commission or other healthcare accreditation bodies.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business, or related field (a Master's degree may be preferred for senior roles).
- Experience: Previous experience in healthcare compliance, auditing, or legal roles.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, Medicare/Medicaid policies, and other state or federal laws.
- Skills: Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills; the ability to manage projects and collaborate with teams across departments.
