Job Summary:
Give various care assistance and related basic hygiene assistance to Enhanced Living residents.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
-
Assist residents with personal hygiene when such assistance is needed
-
Encourage and support residents to be as independent as possible in performance of activities of daily living
-
Perform tasks related to personal hygiene and physical comfort of residents as required or requested
-
Answer call bells timely and respond appropriately to the residents’ needs
-
Communicate and take direction from Charge Nurse and/or Enhanced Living Director of Nursing for medical issues and medications
-
Transfer residents from bed to chair, etc., with personnel assistance as necessary
-
Report changes in residents' physical condition, mental status, and appetites to Charge Nurse
-
Take meal trays to residents who require this service

Help orient new residents to the Neighborhood

Actively participates in orientation and training of new team members
-
Properly use and care for neighborhood supplies and equipment in a cost effective manner

Keep work area neat and clean
-
Report needed repairs and equipment failure to the Neighborhood Mentor, Charge Nurse or EL Neighborhood Manager

Utilize safety devices and follow safety precautions
-
Aware of, and works within, the guidelines of the Resident's Bill of Rights
-
Attend Support Plan Meetings as requested by the EL Neighborhood Manager and offer feedback to update RASPs as necessary
-
Follow emergency procedures and respond rapidly and appropriately to emergencies ensuring the safety of the residents and team members
-
Document proficiently in PCC/POC all services provided to residents during his/her shift
-
Follow proper procedures and promote safe work practices in order to maintain a safe working environment
-
Confidentiality regarding resident information must be maintained in strict confidence, as well as other information pertaining to the business of Messiah Lifeways
-
Willingness to assist with covering parts of shifts and/or different shifts as necessary during staffing concerns as part of the team
-
Willingness to engage with residents as part of the Person Centered Community Minded philosophy to include one on one visits or activities as time allows

Complete training through Relias in a timely manner and attend meetings and other trainings as required

Follow policies and procedures regarding scheduling (i.e. calling-off, requesting time off, per diem requirements, etc.)

Additional duties and tasks as assigned by the EL Neighborhood Manager
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:
-
Sincere desire to work with older adults
-
Must have a sense of responsibility, moral integrity, good judgment, alertness and skill in recognizing and identifying symptoms and dealing with behavioral problems

Work cooperatively and productively with others, including residents, families, the neighborhood mentor and other team members
-
Willingness to work under direction and supervision
Education/Experience:
-
High School Diploma, GED diploma recognized by the Department of Education or active registry status on the Pennsylvania nurse aide registry
-
18 years of age or older
-
Nursing Assistant training and current registration on the Nurse Aide Registry, meets requirements to maintain registration
-
Formal training or previous hospital, personal care home/assisted living, or nursing home experience preferred
-
Successful completion of DHS competency exam during training
Physical/Mental Requirements:
-
At times pushes wheelchairs, sometimes helps residents in walking, and helps residents sit up
-
Occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds and moves or transfers up to 250 pounds with personnel or mechanical assistance
-
Frequently walks and stands, and frequently bends
-
Constant overall vision
-
Frequently requires color and depth perception, reading and writing/close-up work
-
Frequent handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling
-
Constantly hears normal speech and talks in person
-
Occasionally hears and talks on the telephone and hears faint sounds
-
Constant public contact, frequent stressful situations, concentration, occasional trauma, grief, death situations and decision making, referring all questions or problems to the Charge Nurse or the EL Neighborhood Manager

May be exposed to blood borne pathogens
