Job Summary:
Plan and conduct group and individual activities based on resident preferences and with consideration to all aspects of wellness (social, intellectual, spiritual, emotional, physical, etc.). Leads the enhanced living enrichment team in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team to successfully meet holistic needs of residents.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and lead group and individual age-appropriate programs. Ensuring to provide meaningful activities for residents at all functional levels, in their preferred setting and meet federal and state regulations.
- Assist in evaluation of activity program effectiveness and appropriateness in meeting resident needs.
- Coach Enhanced Living enrichment team with program development for each neighborhood
- Lead neighborhood activity orientation for new team members and cross train others as needed
- Facilitate team meetings in Resident Engagement Manager’s absence
- Oversee Enhanced Living enrichment team member scheduling and call off procedures
- Maintain overall programming support including material acquisition and program substitutions in Manager’s absence
- Collaborate with Manager for team member coaching
- Identify opportunities to collaborate with other levels of care for recreation and social programs.
- Collaborate with Manager to plan intergenerational programs with U-GRO and local schools.
- Plan for and accompany residents on trips outside of Messiah Lifeways and work cooperatively with Manager and Transportation Coordinator to make transportation arrangements
- Assist residents during mealtimes while engaging them in opportunities for socialization with fellow residents and team members
- Encourage resident participation in activity programs and offer assistance with transport and/or assist residents to and from programs
- Maintain awareness of resident safety including medical and dietary restrictions and guidance provided by the Infection Preventionist during all activities
- Follow emergency procedures and respond rapidly and appropriately to emergencies ensuring the safety of the residents and team members
- Document resident activity participation in electronic record accurately and timely in addition to coordinating with care team members to capture other engagement experiences
- Request volunteers for programs and projects from the Volunteer Department in a timely manner. Give direction to volunteers assigned to any given project or program.
- Ensure neighborhood decorations are seasonal, appropriate and adhere to the aesthetics policy
- Assist in the acquisition of supplies needed to carry out the program while maintaining neighborhood activity budget
- Guide Enhanced Living enrichment team with budget planning and assist in identifying opportunities to implement the LEAN principle
- Maintain tidiness and organization of activity area, office, and storage areas
- Adheres to applicable policies and procedures and promotes safe work practices to maintain a safe working environment
- Work cooperatively and productively with others, including residents, families, and other team members
- Seek out educational opportunities for team members
- Willing to work under direction and supervision
Confidentiality regarding resident information must be maintained in strict confidence, as well as other information pertaining to the business of Messiah Lifeways
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to plan, coordinate and conduct meaningful enrichment programs
- Must have basic knowledge of computer programs, audio-visual equipment and communication devices
- Must work with children due to intergenerational programming as well as seniors
- Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm
- Must have a sense of responsibility, alertness and skill in recognizing and identifying symptoms and dealing with challenging behavior
Education/Experience:
- Two (2) years experience working directly with long term care residents and/or residents with dementia preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- State approved activity certification preferred
- Must have a valid driver's license
