Position Description
Position Summary
The head coach serves as the program leader for men’s basketball. As head coach, this individual is responsible for operating a program for student-athletes, with differing abilities and skills, that pursues our complementary goals in Athletics of striving for athletic excellence and developing Christian character.This position is also responsible for the supervision of Rec & Club Sports programming for undergraduate students.

Skills, Characteristics Required for Position
- Ability to administer NCAA Division III intercollegiate program(s), including recruiting, scheduling, budgeting, travel, and practice plans
- Ability to coach, teach, and train student-athletes in skills and strategies specific to their sport to make them as competitive as possible
- Ability to establish appropriate and effective mentoring relationships with student-athletes
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the stages of student development and the importance of holistic education
- Ability to be a team player within the department and the college
- Good judgment and problem solving skills
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Demonstrated commitment to continued learning/professional development such as presentations, publications, serving on regional or national committees

Primary Duties
1. Analyze performance and instruct athletes in skills, techniques and strategies in preparation for competition and during contests.
2. Coordinate general administrative duties (including budgeting, game scheduling, travel plans, meeting requests for information, hiring of officials, and business procedures).
3. Communicate with the athletic trainer, sports information director, facilities assignor, and department administrators as needed.
4. Establish appropriate and effective mentoring relationships with student-athletes, resulting in a team grade point average of 3.00 and a retention rate of 82%.
5. Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate recruiting and scouting activities (annual submission of a recruiting plan). Achieve goal of assigned roster size. (18)
6. Supervise part-time assistant coaches and graduate assistant who are part of the program.
7. Plan and operate a successful summer camp (full-time only). Note: planning occurs during the contractual year, while the camp occurs in the summer.
8. Provide leadership to service learning projects/missions experiences on an annual basis.
9.Coordinate the Rec Sports program in the spring (e.g., indoor soccer, indoor volleyball, 5v.5 basketball, softball, ultimate frisbee).
10.Oversee the allocation of operational expenditures (e.g., equipment, staff t-shirts, championship t-shirts) in the spring.
11.Supervise the Work Study Office Assistant in the spring (e.g., schedule work study students to supervise Rec Sports contests and keep students accountable for assignments, game schedules, lights).
12.Conduct on-campus interviews and hire new staff in April for the following academic year.
13.Meet with Club Sports advisors at the beginning of the academic year to review safety policies, advisor roles, coach expectations, and address questions/concerns.
14. Assist club sports teams in completing renewal applications.
15. Perform other administrative duties as assigned.
16. Serve on appropriate departmental and campus committees, including the Community of Educators, and be a presence in college activities and governance.
17. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
