Job Summary
Messiah's Angels enables seniors, individuals with disabilities and those who care for them to achieve their goals and live life to the fullest. The Art Teacher is responsible for leading inclusive art programming for members at our Adult Day Care Center. This role focuses on providing creative engagement through structured and adaptive art activities, fostering self-expression, and supporting cognitive, emotional, and physical well-being.
Reporting Structure
Reports to: Art Coordinator, Clients Manager, and Director
Key Responsibilities:
Art Program Development
- Create and develop the Lesson Plan with the Art Coordinator, including diverse range of artistic projects using various mediums of painting, sculpture, and mixed media.
- Implement those structured, adaptive, and engaging art lesson or activities for members with cognitive and physical disabilities, including those with Alzheimer's/dementia.
- Ensure all art activities are accessible, inclusive, and promote creative expression.
- Discuss and update the lesson plan weekly (Mostly on every Friday) with Art Coordinator by including, excluding, or adjusting necessary steps to follow for the members to complete the project.
Participant Engagement
- Encourage participation and foster a sense of accomplishment and community.
- Adapt activities based on members' cognitive abilities and physical limitations.
- Build relationships with members to understand their artistic interests and tailor programming accordingly.
Other Responsibilities:
- Assist members in the dining area
- Pay attention to members when they are on restroom breaks
- Cleaning the class daily after the Art Project
Training & Professional Development:
- Complete 40 hours of initial training on working with individuals who have cognitive disabilities, dementia, and physical limitations.
- Participate in 12 hours of annual training to refine skills in inclusive art programming and therapeutic engagement.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with community centers, civic groups, and social service agencies to expand art programming and outreach.
- Coordinate with healthcare providers, social workers, and caregivers to integrate art into participant care plans.
- Support community initiatives that expand diversity, equity, and inclusion in the arts.
Program Evaluation:
- Assess the impact and effectiveness of art sessions, gathering feedback from members and staff.
- Adjust programming as needed to ensure maximum engagement and benefit for members.
Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate Art project records and document members' engagement.
Report any concerns regarding participant well-being or behavior to the appropriate staff.
- Submit a Monthly report to the Director end of each month.
Community Engagement:
- Organize community exhibitions and collaborative art projects to showcase members' work.
- Promote opportunities for artistic expression that highlight the unique history, culture, and experiences of the community.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Certification/CNA with experience in Arts and lesson Planning
- Associate in teaching degree in the field of teaching, Art education or related field
- Bachelor's degree in fine arts, Art Therapy, or a related field (preferred but not required).
- At least two years of experience in art instruction, community arts, or working with seniors and individuals with cognitive and physical disabilities, including Alzheimer's/ Dementia.
Experience working in healthcare, senior care, or therapeutic arts settings is a plus.
Working Hours:
- 9.00AM to 3.00PM (6 hours)

- $16 per hour (Starting)
