Lead Steward Position
Job Overview:
The Lead Steward is a versatile role responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment in a fast-paced catering and events environment. This position combines the responsibilities of a Dishwasher, Busser, Steward, and Utility Worker. This role plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean and organized work environment, maintaining and cleaning all tableware, supporting the kitchen staff, supporting banquet prep (both back of house and front of house), potential delivery drop offs, and contributing to overall customer satisfaction. General Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain dishwashing machine, ensuring proper sanitation by regularly testing with test strips.
  • Sort, stack, and rinse dishes, glasses, utensils, and other kitchenware.
  • Load and unload the dishwasher, ensuring efficiency and proper handling of fragile items.
  • Hand wash and scrub larger pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment as needed.
  • Remove trash and recycling from kitchen areas, ensuring proper disposal.
  • Assist with cleaning and sanitizing kitchen surfaces, floors, and equipment.
  • Assist with bussing tables and clearing dishes from dining areas.
  • Collaborate with the kitchen staff to maintain an organized and efficient flow of dishes and utensils.
  • Ensure the availability of clean dishes, utensils, and equipment at all times.
  • Maintain a clean and organized dishwashing area, including storage and supply management.
  • Follow proper sanitation and safety procedures, including handling and storing chemicals.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required.
  • Provide support to other areas of the venue, including sweeping and mopping floors.
  • Display a positive and professional attitude while interacting with team members and customers.
  • Provide support to Front of House by pulling equipment for events, ensuring all tableware are cleaned/dried/polished/wrapped after events
  • Deliver and return goods to and from events and other venues.
  • Perform other Duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Experience/Knowledge:
  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in a similar role preferred but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of dishwashing techniques and sanitation procedures.
  • Familiarity with industrial dishwashing machines and equipment is a plus.

Skills/Aptitude:
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work well within a team.
  • Basic understanding of kitchen operations and workflow.
  • Good communication skills to coordinate with kitchen staff and servers.
  • Ability to safely drive a box truck and vans
License/Qualifications:
  • Certifications: Current Drivers License

  • Availability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements:
  • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses.
  • Significant walking or other means of mobility.
  • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 50 pounds.
Working Conditions:
  • Work primarily takes place in catering event venues and kitchens. This may include but not limited to, indoor setting, & outside activities and events.
  • Varying schedule to include evenings, holidays, weekends, and extended hours based on the needs of the business.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in a controlled, temperate environment; however, may be exposed to heat/cold & wet locations during support of outside activities.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Availability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
