Title: Early Childhood Specialist
Job Type: Part-Time - up to 29 hours/week, Non-Exempt
Schedule: Monday - Friday, between 7:30 am – 4:30 p.m. (subject to change based on program or coverage needs)
Location: Onsite/In-person | 2625 N. Weil Street, Milwaukee, WI 53212
Reports to: Childcare Supervisor
Department: Child and Family, Residential and/or Outpatient Programs

Position Summary
The Early Childhood Specialist cares for the safety and wellbeing of infants and children of 6 weeks -12 years old in a teaching, childcare setting while their mothers attend substance use disorder (SUD) programming.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
- Curriculum development and implementation: Design and execute engaging daily activities that cater to the specific needs and interests of children within their age group, incorporating activities that promote age- appropriate learning in areas of self- expression, social emotional development creative art, fine motor, gross and physical skills
- Child observation and assessment: Monitoring children's development, identifying individual needs, and documenting progress through observations and assessments.
- Parent communication: Regularly communicating with parents about their child's progress, addressing concerns, and maintaining positive relationships. Develop a culturally responsive relationships children, and families
- Social and emotional development: Regularly communicating with parents about their child's progress, addressing concerns, and maintaining positive relationships. Develop a culturally responsive relationships children, and families
- Physical activity and outdoor play: Plan and supervise outdoor playtime and indoor (Gym) physical activities to support children's gross motor development.
- Record Keeping: Keep accurate attendance records, daily progress reports, service sheets, appointment calendars and Electronic Health Records
- Adhere to Best Practices:
- Work collaboratively with parents and treatment teams using trauma informed.
- Mandated Reporter of Child Abuse.
- Follow all RIPLE procedures.
- Flexible with the constant changing needs of the department and how it serves Meta House.
- Relocate to another building site when needed for coverage
- Other duties as periodically or permanently assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Required Education
- High School Diploma
- Required Work Experience
- 3-5 years related experience including in a childcare setting or school setting OR Wisconsin Registry Level 5 (Active and Updated)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preferred Education
- Associate's degree or higher in Early Childhood Development
- Preferred Work Experience
- More than 5 years in a childcare setting or school setting OR Wisconsin Registry Level 7 or higher (Active and Updated)
- Preferred License/Certification
- Trauma Informed Care
- Strength based with children parental impact by Substance Abuse Disorder
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Interest and ability to support children and their families
- Have knowledge of principals and technique of Early Childhood Education
- Ability to analyze an issue, identify options, and implement solutions
- Extends excellent service to all children and families
- Visually identify clients and others for reasons including but not limited to security and presence in the building.
- Maintains supervision of children assigned to him/her at all times--alert to signs of illness or stress; informs Program Supervisor regarding children who may be showing signs of physical, emotional, or developmental problems
- Maintains and refreshes well designed, child-focused bulletin boards that reflect children’s work and interests
- Teaching practices that are planned and executed reflect developmentally appropriate curriculum for children
- Enforces policies and procedures that ensure our compliance with the Agency and Childcare Department
- Educational materials and toys are cleaned, sanitized, in good repair, stored and organized to optimize child safety and use
- Able to work in a multi-cultural setting
- Able to work well with school-aged children, preschool children, toddlers and infants in a mixed -age group setting
- Establishes appropriate relationships with children, parents/guardians, staff,

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- All Meta House staff are required to provide proof of vaccination for MMR, Varicella, and annual flu shot
- Adherence to a non-smoking work environment
- Tolerate occasional hot or cold days.
- Sit or stand for extended periods of time including alternating sitting or standing at will.
- Lift and up to 25 pounds on a regular basis and 40 pounds on occasion
- Ascend and descend stairs using feet and legs.
- Bend, stoop, twist, squat, and kneel to perform essential functions.
- Reach overhead, and at or below shoulder level.
- Read and enter text or data into a computer or other system.
- Seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hands.
- Touch, pick, punch or otherwise working with fingers.
- Hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds to communicate with clients and/or colleagues.
- Express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word to impart oral information to clients or the public and convey detailed spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- See clearly at approximately 20 inches or less including use of computers or tablet.
- Visually identify clients and others for reasons including, but not limited to security, presence in the building, and medication dispensing.
- Ability to operate agency vehicle for work related duties.
- Ability to operate agency 15 passenger van.
- Ability to use personal vehicle for work related duties.
- Auto insurance coverage with the following limits: 100k per person bodily injury/300k per accident bodily injury limit/100k property damage liability (required for employees using their personal vehicle for work or for employees transporting clients in their personal vehicle).
