Total hours: Full-Time. 40
Reports to: Residential Shift Leaders
Position Summary
The Residential Support Specialist (RSS) provides a safe and organized environment for residential treatment by supervising the clients and maintaining the daily schedule.
Position Responsibilities Description
- Provide a safe, healthy, and therapeutic environment for mothers and children
- Monitor and record the proper self-administration of resident medication
- Uphold, understand, and enforce all client-related policies as outlined by internal policies (RIPLE) and be familiar with other policies including CBRF regulations
- Attend RSS meetings, required trainings, and in-services as assigned which may be held outside of normally scheduled hours
- Complete all other required trainings deemed necessary by policies and regulations
- Clearly communicate with other staff via logs and shift exchanges to gain insight into treatment needs of each client
- Assist with orientation of new residents on house rules and other aspects of the facility
- Enforce house rules and report deviations to therapeutic staff
- Assist mothers in day-to-day activities with children relating to play, meals, free and bed times
- Assist in court-ordered visitations providing supervision and record results
- Monitor and supervise and assist women in completing house chores and duties including meal preparation, and personal care of children
- Diffuse conflict in the house through non-defensive, strength-based conflict resolution methods
- Contact emergency assistance, as needed, and following necessary protocol
- Complete random urine drug tests to residents as requested by counseling staff
- Record concerns, progress notes, incidents or pertinent observations in the Shift Log in a timely manner, using clearly stated facts and observations
- Work cooperatively in supporting other staff
- Daily tasks such as wake-up calls, laundry, checking clients’ bags upon return, keeping building clean and free of clutter
- Giving tours
- Other duties as may be periodically or permanently assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's) Required
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with people
- Ability to problem solve and develop problem solving skills
- Computer skills including proficiency in Word, Excel, and other applications
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- All Meta House staff are required to provide proof of vaccination for MMR, Varicella, and annual flu shot.
- Adherence to a non-smoking work environment.
Able to:
- Tolerate occasional hot or cold days.
- Sit or stand for extended periods of time including alternating sitting or standing at will.
- Lift and up to 25 pounds on a regular basis and 50 pounds on occasion.
- Ascend and descend stairs.
- Bend, stoop, twist, squat, and kneel to perform essential functions.
- Reach overhead, and at or below shoulder level.
- Read and enter text or data into a computer or other system.
- Seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hands.
- Touch, pick, punch or otherwise working with fingers.
- Hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds in order to communicate with clients and/or colleagues.
- See clearly at approximately 20 inches or less including use of computers or tablet.
- Visually identify clients and others for reasons including, but not limited to security, presence in the building, and medication dispensing.
- Ability to work overtime when needed.
- Potential overnight shifts and one weekend day per week.
- Ability to adhere to a nonsmoking work environment.
Qualifications
Educational Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- CBRF certification is required and is provided to candidates w/o prior certification
Experience Requirements
- Prior experience working in community-based care facilities or social services setting preferred
