Full time Middle School Science Teacher

Metairie Park Country Day School seeks an experienced teacher who enjoys working with young people to fill the position of Middle School Science Teacher. The full time, 10-month position includes a comprehensive benefits package along with all school year holidays.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Teaching up to five sections of middle school science
• Using or developing an independent curriculum that joyfully and rigorously engages students in science
• Collaborating with the grade-level and divisional teams to promote curricular alignment and consistency
• Communicating with parents about students’ progress
• Serving as an advisor to roughly a dozen students, monitoring student progress in all facets of school life, and assisting the student in making goals, plans, and decisions
• Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of School or a division principal, including lunch, recess, and independent work time
• Supporting the Mission of the school and its leadership

Qualifications:

• Experience teaching middle school science (Earth, Life/Biology, and/or Physical Science) and developing related curricula
• A degree in science education, biology, environmental science, geology, physics, chemistry (or related field)
• Knowledge and interest in utilizing innovative and engaging pedagogical approaches
• Demonstrated skills in team-based, collaborative projects and initiatives

The goals of the Country Day Science curriculum are to aid students in understanding and making connections to the world around them, as well as gaining intellectual curiosity and scientific literacy by using science practices such as inquiry, design, problem-solving, data analysis, and modeling.
