SUMMARY

Leads, coordinates, and directs engineering programs according to project requirements by using the most effective methods for ensuring safety, quality, and productivity.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages large-scale projects from initial launch through approved PPAP, ensuring deadlines are met and that the cross-functional project team is working efficiently.
  • Has total critical project responsibility.
  • Provides the department with support in aspects of training and mentorship to further develop the department and individuals therein.
  • Able to clearly define and communicate technical path solutions for critical challenges.
  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, providing input to the project team.
  • Creates, maintains, and approves work instructions and process database routings that are used in the manufacturing process.
  • Validates drawings and process routings against customer requirements.
  • Works with customers as needed on product design to determine most cost-effective solution for the desired product.
  • Works with vendors to determine product specification and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Engineering degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university, and 7 years in a product engineering or manufacturing engineering role, including 2 years in a project leadership role.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram from and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to feel or handle; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to twist, stoop, walk, and carry within the following parameters. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Working conditions are normal for an office setting within a manufacturing environment. Work involves lifting of materials and product up to 30 pounds.
  • Machinery environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, protective shoes/boots. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.
  • Employees must demonstrate physical ability to work in a standing or sitting position, between 8-12 hours per day
