Overview
Metal Exchange International (MEI) is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior International Accounting Clerk. This role provides essential support for our accounting and finance operations, with a focus on managing financial records, processing invoices, and ensuring compliance with international trade and VAT regulations. The ideal candidate has a foundational knowledge of accounting, import/export processes, and value-added tax (VAT), and is eager to learn and grow within an international, collaborative, and supportive work environment.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Check, approve, and record incoming vendor invoices related to logistics, including customs clearance, transportation, and warehousing costs.
- Work closely with the logistics and supply chain teams to ensure accurate billing and timely payments for services.
- Investigate and resolve invoice discrepancies in coordination with vendors and internal stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate data of commercial parties in the system of record.
- Ensure timely payments to vendors and service providers, following internal processes.
- Support VAT return submissions in various EU countries.
- Assist in preparing financial reports and maintaining accurate financial records.
- Communicate effectively with vendors, customers, and internal teams to ensure smooth financial transactions
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education
- Basic training in accounting or a higher degree (e.g., bachelor’s degree) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience
- 1-2 years of accounting experience, preferably in an international environment with exposure to VAT compliance and import/export.
Language Requirements
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; knowledge of additional languages is a plus.
Other required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Preference is for experience with accounting software Microsoft Dynamics 365
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word).
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of international trade regulations, customs procedures, and VAT compliance is a plus.
