What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production - Finishing Operator position at Metal Technologies?
General Summary: This position is responsible for the processing and inspection of castings to insure they meet or exceed our customer requirements.
Essential Functions:
Inspects castings for defects per work instructions including external defects, excessive core fin or flash, burn-in sand, high ingate, etc.
Operates grinders (i.e. hand and pedestal) in a safe manner by inspecting grinder for proper adjustment, cracks or chips in the wheel and overall working condition. The operator will report any problems to the facilitator.
Places finished parts in designated shipping containers for shipment as specified by work instructions.
Transfers containers and other material using a forklift as needed within compliance of relevant work instructions.
When assigned to operate a forklift must complete daily inspection checklists as required.
Operates weigh scale as needed.
Operate shakeout including separating gates, risers, and castings.
Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
May be assigned other duties as needed.
Experience Required
Machining experience with milling and turning experience preferred
Previous knowledge of foundry practices, principles, equipment, etc. preferred.
Basic knowledge of machining processes preferred
Education, Training & Skills
High School Diploma or equivalent GED preferred
Basic math and blueprint reading experience preferred
Adding, dividing, averages, etc. and ability to plot data points. Using charts to convert decimals and fractions. Print reading a benefit but not required.
Basic knowledge of Quality Systems, such as ISO-9001 Preferred
Work Schedule/Job Rotation/Breaks: 10-hour shifts per day with 10 hours overtime per week, mandatory. Two 10-minute breaks and one 15-minute lunch (5 minutes allowed for clean-up)
Work Environment: Inside, some noise from equipment, temperature controlled, handling parts that are coated with coolant and rust preventative
Tools: Assorted wrenches, grinders or buffers, gauges, files, deburring tools, wedger, hook, and a hammer in shakeout.
