What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Welder - 2nd Shift position at Metalico?
We are seeking a highly skilled applicant with welding experience in the industrial setting to join our team at Metalico in Girard, Ohio, a leading full-service scrap metal recycler in the Northeastern United States. The ideal candidate will have industry experience in scrap metal recycling, and attention to detail and accuracy. This position will work on 2nd shift.
Summary
As a Maintenance Shift member at Metalico, you will be asked to perform solely or with the other members on projects such as conveyor belts changes, bearing switch outs, burn / weld / fabricate pieces needed for our mill, some heavy equipment operation, as well as some general labor tasks. Must follow our safety policies and safe operating procedures at all times. Must be able to work in a drug free workplace.

Essential Job Functions
Competent in using equipment following all safety precautions.
A steady hand and great attention to detail.
Knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties is essential.
Read drawings and take or read measurements to plan and execute design.
Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g., cut material with powered saws to match measurements).
Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces.
Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead).
Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps.
Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws.
Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
Will perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be safety-oriented and exhibit safe work habits.
High School diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 6 months welding experience, will be required to pass a welding test.
Must be able to read tape measure and calipers.
Knowledgeable in stick and mig type welding processes.
Knowledgeable in use of oxygen and acetylene / propane cutting torch, carbon air arc and plasma cutter experience is a plus.
Basic mechanical skills.
Experience with basic hand tools.
Ability to work inside or outside as required.
Work Hours :
Monday through Friday, 40-hour work week; Saturdays and overtime will be required as scheduled. Must be willing to work on 2nd shift.
