This is a position for a four year Mechanical Maintainer - Mobile Equipment Apprentice, with continued employment as a Mechanical Maintainer - Mobile Equipment after the apprenticeship is completed. Employees in this position are responsible for but not limited to the following:
- Receive work assignment, instructions, drawings and sketches for diagnosis, repair, and preventative/predictive maintenance of heavy mobile equipment to include locomotives.
- Analyze drawings, sketches, schematics, diagnostic equipment, plan working procedure, and determine tools and equipment needed for the completion of assigned work.
- Work in the shop or field as required.
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems.
- Perform preventative & predictive maintenance on mobile heavy equipment. Mobile heavy equipment consists of both diesel & gas power plants, fans, blowers, mechanical power transmission, pumps, hydraulic components, electrical systems and other mechanical components.
- Troubleshoot, dismantle, clean, inspect, rebuild, repair, replace, install, assemble, adjust, align, and lubricate heavy mobile equipment and related components.
- Operate overhead electric crane and mobile equipment to lift and transport materials.
- Operate heavy mobile equipment for pick-up and delivery.
- Perform miscellaneous work such as filling out standard forms, lubricating equipment, rigging parts & equipment for movement or lifting, and keeping tools, equipment and work area clean and orderly.
- Could work straight afternoons, midnights or swing shifts.
- High School/GED and 1 year of experience working as a mechanic on heavy mobile equipment or completed a trade/vocational school on locomotive repair.
- High School/GED and 2 years' experience working as a mechanic on heavy mobile equipment or completed a trade/vocational school on locomotive repair.
- Candidate has current and valid driver's license
- Ability to climb and work at heights of 10 feet
- Ability to lift 75 pounds at one time, 50 pounds multiple times a day
- Ability to operate trucks or motor vehicles
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures
