Telecommunications Technician
6 Month Contract
Overview:
This is a field-based position responsible for the installation, maintenance, and support of telecommunications and networking systems. The role involves traveling within the Westfield, PA, and Schenectady, NY areas, with minimal in-office work required.
Responsibilities:
- Install and maintain telecommunications circuits, including phone, carrier, microwave, wireless systems, two-way radios, analog, digital, and fiber optic systems.
- Interpret circuit diagrams, use diagnostic test equipment, and collaborate with telecom engineers for new installations.
- Install and maintain LAN/WAN equipment, ensuring connectivity to desktops and remote locations.
- Support systems such as telemeter devices, central radio dispatch equipment, and substation remote terminal units.
- Assist in project planning, coordinate with contractors, and provide consulting to telecom engineers.
- Resolve phone line issues, move workstations, and maintain department documentation.
Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the coverage area.
- Two-year degree in telecommunications/data networking or equivalent work experience (minimum of three years in a related field).
- Advanced skills in telecommunications disciplines and AC/DC knowledge for high-voltage environments.
- Proficient in testing voice and data circuits using diagnostic equipment.
- Knowledge of IT systems, effective communication, analytical problem-solving, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Field work: 80% at field offices/tower sites and 20% at headquarters.
Additional Details:
- Rare overnight stays.
- Contractors will expense mileage, with home location within 30 miles of Westfield, PA, or Schenectady, NY.
- Day-to-day activities involve assisting area telecom technicians with on-site issues.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $29.88 - $33.70 per hour
