A Washington DC govt agency is seeking a GIS professional specializing in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) who advises organizations on how to utilize this technology to analyze spatial data, solve location-based problems, and make informed decisions across various industries like urban planning, environmental management, transportation, and utilities, by collecting, analyzing, and visualizing geospatial information through mapping and data analysis tools; often collaborating with clients to design and implement GIS systems, assess data quality, and provide training on data management and analysis techniques.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain GIS applications and tools using industry-standard software and programming languages.
- Integrate geospatial data with web applications, enterprise systems, and third-party platforms.
- Customize GIS software solutions (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) to meet specific project requirements.
- Create and manage spatial databases, ensuring data integrity and usability.
- Perform geospatial analysis to support decision-making and create high-quality visualizations and maps.
- Develop automated workflows using scripting languages like Python to improve efficiency.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and design GIS solutions tailored to their needs.
- Stay updated on emerging GIS technologies and recommend enhancements to existing systems.
- Provide technical support, documentation, and training to users of GIS applications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to GIS software and systems.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in GIS development or software engineering.
- Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar tools.
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, JavaScript, or C#.
- Experience with web development frameworks.
- Proficiency in working with spatial databases such as SQL Server.
- Knowledge of APIs and web services.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and GIS integrations is a plus.
- Strong understanding of geospatial principles, data formats, and coordinate systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or collaboratively.
- Familiarity with machine learning and AI techniques for geospatial analysis.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: From $70.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
